I'll be seeing my nephew in a few days for the first time in almost two years and I'm looking forward to it. The video chats and exchanged images are just not enough; he's a legit little dude and I miss him so much. 

He doesn't know I'm coming, his dad, [my brother], has kept it a secret just in case the pandemic prevents my trip in which case, should he expect me to be there, he'd be *devo* (devastated in Australian slang.) I'm not expecting such pandemic nutbaggery but apparently parents do this all the time, *lie and mislead their kids.* I can see the merit of such deception.

I'm not the uncle to arrive empty handed, I am way cooler than that folks!  So I went shopping. Ok, that sounds normal, but I'm venturing into brave new areas of gift-giving on this occasion and I'm excited...also a little sad.

My nephew loves trucks, cars, earth-moving equipment and the like; typical boy...although my niece @smallsteps likes the same. Both also love Lego [runs in the family] and when the the former combines with Lego? It's *lose one's fucken mind* time. [Yeah I know, I fucken swear a bit.] 😏

Anyway, my nephew, *on every video chat* says, *"uncle Galen, can I see your Lego."* I oblige showing him some of the built sets I have...knowing it'll not end there. 

*"Uncle Galen, can I see the Lego in the cupboard,"* always comes next. 

I make a show of opening it up, trying to find the Lego he refers to and showing him one by one enjoying the wonder and pleasure on his face each time he sees the same things he saw last week. He's so cute and expressive and I really get a kick out of it despite knowing he covets my Lego with every fibre of his being. 

When I went shopping for him I picked up the obligatory t-shirts, all of which are adorned with trucks, earth-moving equipment or the word TONKA which send that little kid (even more) bonkers! I got some shorts and other clothing but also wanted to get something to challenge him a little so picked up a little self-propelled robot-car thing that he'll have to build. Because he thinks stickers are the fifth best thing in the entire world, I bought some sticker books also: Monster bikes, sea creatures, dinosaurs, trucks and ninjas! 

I bought no Lego as I had a really cool idea instead. 

I decided I'd take some of my own Lego, unopened of course, some of the very same sets my nephew has been coveting for months and months. Cool right? I think he's going to take bonkers to the next level! I'm a bit sad to see them go but they will find a good home.

Everything I have in life will end up with these two little people, hopefully in the distant future when they're not little and I'm old, not young and virile like I am now. I guess I figured I might as well start now though, and it'll give me a pretty nice feeling to see his face when he opens his gifts and sees the Lego he's been drooling over for months.

Five days and counting down.
