The internet is a beautiful thing but unfortunately it is broken... ---------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.quicksprout.com/images/homerdoh.jpg The evolution of the internet has resulted in an environment where we find a lot of value and much of it for free. This is a natural feature of the internet's history and evolution. If we had to pay for everything on the internet in its early phases it would not likely have grown as quickly as it has and expanded so rapidly to reach all corners of the globe and provide all types of functions and services. BUT... ------ Many of the services we consume on the internet are now quite complex, expensive to build, expensive to improve, maintain and run. As a result, the operators of these services have to resort to other methods to obtain funds and make a profit. Aside from advertising, which is annoying, internet companies have started commoditizing us. We are now the product... ---------------------- Our content, our data, our personal detail are sold to the highest bidder. Online privacy, and personal privacy is a major issue. Not just because of governments (as Snowden and others have revealed) but also because of corporations. The more somebody knows about you the more they are able to predict your behavior and the more likely it is that you can be manipulated. Either by marketeers trying to get you to buy their products or by search engines or other sources of information manipulating the flow of information. This is a natural evolution of something that provides value where that value is not paid for. Other means will be devised to monetize the value... ... and in this sense the internet is broken -------------------------------------------- To solve the productization of people, their content, data and privacy alternative methods need to be developed to monetize the value on the internet. Steemit is doing just that.... -------------------------- Steemit is groundbreaking in that it is creating an internet ecosystem and setting the example of how to monetize three types of internet activity. - content cretaion - content curation - commentary ...and this is just the start. We are witnessing the birth of a new phase of internet evolution... and it is lead by steemit. Bitcoin was the birth of a new phase in the evolution of financial systems. The world of finance will not look the same in 5 to 10 years all because of bitcoin. I suggest that the internet will not look the same in a couple of years due to the emergence of game-changing sites like steemit and what will follow in its wake ------------------------------------------------------------------------ #internet #steem #steemit
