Humility and kindness pay off in everything we do albeit lacking them both is not a crime. I always tell people, be humble and kind in all situation even though it is not compulsory. Be genuinely humble and unnecessarily kind without expecting anything in return.

>when kindness is done in expectation of rewards, you are carrying out a transaction, not kindness

I am a young lecturer with enormous responsibilities at work. The kind of pressure that accompanies my work would make anyone to lack any form of kindness. Yet, I have always taken my time to attend to students and help out when necessary. All these I have done in good faith in expectation of nothing from the students. Some of them do come back to show gratitude, sometimes by words of mouth and sometimes in terms of money and material things or both. Let it be known that l always assist them with the emphasis that they owe me nothing, so that some of them will not start feeling pressure of giving me something. So, most of the time, I always try to turn down the money or material things. This is not to say I do not collect at times, after all, I am human with needs, especially financial ones. In all these, some of the students I have helped do not even show up for any form of gratitude, which I appreciate better.

Fast forward to few days ago, I started reaping the benefit s of my kindness and humility when one of my students @gbenga introduced this platform to me and actually assisted me in signing up. What impresses me most was the way he respectfully attended to me. I have always been a social media person, spending hours posting for nothing but likes and retweets on twitter. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered a platform that pays for such. Today, I had reason to get the contact of one of the students that graduated under me last year when I heard he is a whale on this platform. My posts, despite the efforts I put into them have not been doing much when it comes to rewards. I needed just more than hard work, I needed a mentor. Someone that knows the terrain and the nitty gritty of steem, steemit, SP, SBD, etc. I got his contact and I called him

> I need more than just votes,I need mentoring

That's what I told him. Yes, I have mentored him before. Now is the time for him to mentor me. I am not ashamed to say it or even beg him for it. If I want to be successful on here, I will need to be humble. This is a lesson to all.

>humility pays.

And yes, I am fortunate enough that he is within my hood when I put a call through. I will be catching up with him soon. You all should wish me luck.

Talking about kindness,I have received many on this platform within few days of joining. Thanks to @acidyo for giving me my voting power back after my initial ignorant recklessness; and about mentoring, thanks to @suesa for the little she has done and for the ones she will still do. I am looking forward to it.
