My name is George Bogiatzidis (Boya) i am a visual artist and i use collage as my medium. I have started creating handcut collages 14 years ago, inspired by the idea to create a stained glass artwork but using paper instead of glass pieces. I took a book of sketces for stained glass artworks by a friend who was an artist and start experimenting. This is my first artwork, a portrait from the book made out of a chopped national geographic and a playboy magazine on black paper. I really liked it. I used very colourful peaces to imitate the shining glass effect and the black lines are actually the gap between the paper pieces. Its like a puzzle. Two years later i started using prints instead of magazines because the thickness of the print and the quality made my artwork look better technically and aesthetically. Also i i started using black cardboard instead of paper as the base of my artwork At 2010 i started using prints of photos and i got really inspired to made my artwork more surreal. Most of it consists of portraits other real and other imaginary and photos used found through endless net search. Five years ago i decided to change my theme because all this portrait making started to get really boring.i Started using the language of symbolism to create a narrative in my artwork. As practice i was inspired to recreate the 21 card of the Major Arcana of a Tarot deck. Even though this series is not finished yet it was a huge lesson and after that i felt confident to start using symbolic images to my artwork to convey a message to the viewer. This my art studio where i spend most of my time creating new collage artwork. It is at Thessaloniki, Greece and its located at the old part of the city. For the past 6 months i m trying to enrich my knowledge by learning photoshop in order to start creating digital collages also. I love the process and the possibilities that photoshop gives you as a collage artist, i can twist and turn every image, give more depth to my artwork and of course save a lot of the process. Although i like the digital way of working i don't enjoy it so much as the handcut way but i will continue learning and creating. I found @Slothicorn through the visionary art competition and learn more about the philosophy of the community. I really liked the idea of creative commons in artworks but i am little hesitant because of the medium (collage) and the way i am working. Even though i will try to create some new digital artwork which anybody can use freely.
