I like trying new food items. I always say that "I'll try anything once as long as needles aren't involved." When I opened up the menu at the Ziggy Stardust Restaurant in Koh Phayam and saw this prominently featured on the top of a page, I was immediately intrigued.

The name of the menu item in Thai is also "no name" and there is no additional description as to what this might be. There was also no photo of the food. Since it was only 80 Baht (around $2.50) myself and my pal figured "what the hell?" and decided to give it a go. We could have asked the staff what it is but I wanted to dive in head first and just take it as it came. about 5 minutes later this was delivered to our table.

It was obvious that it was deep fried something with some sort of batter to hold the concoction together. It came with a side of sweet chili sauce which isn't surprising since nearly every appetizer in Thailand is served with that.

The best I can tell is that is that there cabbage, carrots, and some sort of green stuff in there that I think might be spring onions. It basically just tasted like a vegetable tempura where everything was mixed into one fritter instead of eating them separately. I can't really say that this dish blew my mind because well, it just tasted like fried whatever. The batter taste overpowered the taste of anything that is in it. If you really like tempura or onion rings this could be something you might enjoy. Mostly I found it to be a bit "meh" but I suppose I am glad that I tried if for no other reason than to eliminate the mystery around that menu item. I reckon i should go get in the ocean to work of some of this fried bits. It is overcast today so there is very little chance of sunburn.... or is there?

Don't fear the no name
