The time was 7am at the dot on a Monday morning in Abuja. The environment is looking so choky with everyone going about their daily activities. Going along the streets, you can see people doing their business, people selling goods, hawking their products and many more. Mummy Tayo was standing at the door, looking at her only son. 


"Tayo, answer me, why is it that you have not submitted your assignment? This is the 4th time this is happening "


Tayo was shy of saying any words to his mother at that particular time. Scratching his head as he was lost in thought of what to say. 



"Mummy, it was not my fault. It was the generator," Tayo responded, still in fear.

"What are you saying! The Generator?"

"Yes, mummy, it was the generator. It stopped working in the night when I was doing my assignment, and there was no light for me to continue. Not only that, my laptop ran out of battery, " Tayo responded to his mother with a bit of confidence to state the excuse. 




"Tayo, so what you are trying to tell me is that because the generator went off, you are not able to complete your assignment, and your laptop also refuses to finish your assignment." 


"Mummy, that's true, I am not lying. That is what happens. Mummy, I even tried to make use of the inverter but mummy, but the inverter was also low"



"Tayo, you are deceiving yourself, and I will tell you the truth. That same NEPA that gives us uninterrupted power supply for a good 6-7 hours  did not allow you to finish your assignment." 

At that point, Tayo was short of words to say any longer. 

Bola, who was the younger sister of Tayo, responded from the window. 


"Mummy, don't mind Tayo. He was watching YouTube and Netflix all through the night on that same laptop you said was low."

Tayo was shocked. "Bola!!!"

Mummy Tayo was shocked to hear what Bola said. 

"Tayo, you did what? Is that true? "


"Mummy, don't mind Bola, that is not true." Tayo was stammering as he was responding to his mum. 

"Mummy, what actually happened was I was doing research," he said, trying to give his excuse again.



"Tayo  you are lying. You are not researching at all. Even the generator sneezes at your lie." Bola responded. 


Mummy Tayo was surprised and at the same time shocked.

"Now, Tayo, listen to them carefully, pick up your bag and follow me."

"Mummy, where are we going?" Tayo asked. 

"We are going to meet your principal. You will explain that generator excuse to your principal today.

Tayo fell down and felt deep within himself that he had lost. 


"Tayo, next time, instead of lying against the generator, just say that your assignment caught fire," Bola responded in a bid to mock him.

"Or better still, say I ate the assignment"



Tayo was left regretting his action and the excuse he gave. But at that particular time, +3 had no option but to follow his mother to the principal's office at school. He must defend himself in front of the principal.
