Top analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a report earlier today on iPhones that are to be produced in 2020. Included in the report is the inclusion of 5G functionalities in special versions of the phone by the second half of 2020 and all versions by 2021. Intel has been having issues meeting up with deadlines for the development of Intel XMM 8160 5G modem which Apple is counting on using to add 5G connectivity to the phone. Intel's has previously been the sole provider of modem chips for iPhone XS, XS plus and XR versions and has been slated to the sole provider for the next release of iPhones. Apple is reported to be postponing the release date for 5G enabled phones due to the inability of Intel to deliver the modem chips. Meanwhile, Samsung and Huawei are said to be preparing to launch their own 5G enabled phones before the end of this year. Apple's recent bromance with Qualcomm has fueled the general belief that the tech giant is already seeking alternatives. Though, Kuo reports that Apple is planning on creating its own chips by 2022 and 2023. Future generations of iPhones are expected to be heavily Qualcomm based at least until Apple's in-house chips are produced.
