##   Ladytron  - *This is Our Sound*

## Ladytron is a band I first
discovered in high school, on Napster (gives you an idea how long ago high school was, lol).  I was really into punk rock around the time, but had just started to listen to and enjoy electronic music/bands of various sorts, and Ladytron were definitely central to that change.  The band was formed in 1999 in Liverpool, England, and have had the same line-up since the very early days of the group: Helen Marnie (lead vocals, synthesizers), Mira Aroyo (vocals, synthesizers), Daniel Hunt (synthesizers, guitar, vocals) and Reuben Wu (synthesizers).  Their early music is very much synthpop, but over the years, they've combined elements from other genres, like shoegaze and dreampop, as they've evolved. ## This song is from the band's
debut album, ***604***, released in 2001, and is one of the four original songs I downloaded that introduced me to the group.  I really like the timbre of the synths used on this song (and the album as a whole); they have a retro vibe at times, without feeling like a 'throwback' band.  The vocals are catchy, and do some interesting things harmonically, particularly during the 'hook' ("This is Our Sound..."), where they utilize a nice little dissonance with the flat 2.  Not a huge thing, but a simple, out of key note like that can really make the entire song.
