# Elvis Costello - *I'm Not Angry*

## Elvis Costello has had a long
and interesting career, with tons of music spanning nearly every genre and style.  He later became known for his "pop" songs, although he still had a rock influence, but his early stuff, particularly his 1977 debut album *My Aim is True*, he was a straight up rocker.  And not in the '70s long hair, space rock sense.  His style (clothing and guitar playing) was inspired by the 1950s Rock and Roll era, which was a welcome change for young people at the time.  Along with bands like The Ramones, Talking Heads, and MC5, Elvis Costello was part of a new wave of rock, which did away with the excesses of stadium and glam bands, and focused on good, fun music without any pretension.  I sort of see him as the reincarnation of Buddy Holly in the punk era.

## This song is on that debut 
album, and is possibly my favorite, although that's a hard choice because there are so many good tracks on that album.  This song is faster than the rest of the album for sure, it's definitely got a punky/garage rock sort of drive to it.  The instrumentation is super '50s rock, piano and guitars working together along with the rhythm section, but it doesn't feel "old".  I think the intensity and drive along with the lyrics and melody give it a really unique character.  There's something super "cool" about this whole album, the timbre of it is just seems to fit perfectly with the Rock revival aesthetic.
