## Fleetwod Mac - *Closing My Eyes*

## Fleetwod Mac are,
without a doubt, one of the biggest rock bands of all time. They were formed in 1967, and have existed in one form or another ever since. While the band's most famous songs come from the "Steve Nicks era", there is a whole other set of albums from '67 to '74 that have some incredible songs, though my personal favorites are in the Peter Green era, from '67 to '70. Green was one of the original members, whose guitar playing came to define the early releases. Unfortunately, Green took LSD with a sort of cult/religious group in Germany, and began have a lot of mental health issues, resulting in him leaving the group in '70. The story is far too long and crazy to type out here, but I recommend reading up on it, as it is sort of the "60's worst-case-scenario".

## This song is from their
1969 album [***Then Play On***](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Then_Play_On), an album I had not discovered until five or six years ago via my friend Andrew, but one that quickly became a favorite. The album is clearly more blues-influenced than their '70s tunes, but it also has a great psych-rock vibe, particularly in Green's guitar work. Each song is pretty incredible, and they are all surprisingly different. I love the guitar tones here, they're simple and clean, but they work so well with the performance: the long, held chords, and the sharp, sudden staccato hits. The drums and bass also drop out at this point on the album, which is a really stark change from the opening track, with its heavily rhythmic, bluesy vibe.

## Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
