##   **OMD**  - *The New Stone Age*

## Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark,
shortened to **OMD**, are an electronic/synthpop band, formed in England in 1978.  The lineup has shifted quite a bit over the years, with cofounder Andy McCluskey being the only member to make it through each incarnation.  They came to fame in 1979 and 1980 across Europe with their singles *Electricity* and *Enola Gay*, and found international success a year later, with their 1981 album ***Architecture and Morality***.  Their sound, and use of cutting edge electronics, helped influence and shape synth-pop of the '80s. ## This is the opening track
to the aforementioned ***Architecture and Morality***.  I was going to share one of the 4 singles (probably *She's Leaving*, which is one of my favorites), but I thought this would be a more interesting choice.  The song has a sort of hypnotic quality, moving back and forth between the tonic and bVi, and using some really interesting sounds.  The production on this album was a major step up from their previous releases, and, despite its age at this point, still sounds pretty incredible.
