## Siouxsie and the Banshees - *Spellbound*

## Siouxsie and the Banshees were
one of the most original bands to emerge from the UK Punk/Post-Punk scene.  They were formed in 1976 by Siouxsie Sioux (Vocals) and Steven Severin (Bass) in London, England, and released albums from 1978 to 1995.  Over the years, they have had a number of guitarist, including Robert Smith (**The Cure**) and John Mcgeoch (**Magazine**).  Their sound has always been dark/gothy, but unlike some of their punk contemporaries, they used some really advanced harmonic and songwriting ideas to create incredibly original music.

## This song is from their 1981
album ***Ju Ju***.  The guitar work on this song was done by the aforementioned John Mcgeoch, and is pretty incredible.  The Verse riff uses a bunch of arpeggios, beginning on Dm7add4, then outlining the top of a CLydianAdd9 (the bass handles the C), then they use the sharp 6 (minor, with a b4), essentially giving us a dorian sound.  The Chorus uses a Cm7(11), to a Dm7(11), then that little descending line of Bb5, A5, and G5 on the high E and B strings.
