## I went on a Wire kick this afternoon

I first learned about <b>Wire</b> through the song <i>'12XU'</i>, though the version I initially heard was the <b>Minor Threat</b> cover. For a long time, I thought it was original, until I read the CD booklet at some point much later, which led me to check out the original group. I got hooked pretty quickly, and consider their first 3 albums to be some of my all time favorites. <b>Wire</b> was formed in 1976 in London by Bruce Gilbert, Colin Newman, Graham Lewis, and Robert Grey. The band was an important part of the early punk scene, though even early on they were experimenting and getting a little more 'out-there' than other bands. Their second album showed the band really leaning into the experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of their sound, which really culminated on their third album, widely considered a post-punk classic. Today's song is from that sophomore release, 1978's <i>Chairs Missing</i>; it isn't the dark, strange post-punk of their later stuff, but definitely is interesting and not as straight-forward as it may seem at first glance. Harmonically it isn't anything too wild, but the vocals in the Choruses have a really interesting rhythmic pattern, which is so much fun to sing along with.</div>
