๐ŸŽจ How to mount a canvas on a stretcher frame (tutorial)

While preparing the canvas for a new larger painting (120 x 100 cm) I was thinking it might be a good idea to show here how I'm doing it. I've often seen people struggling with putting the canvas on the stretcher. It ended up to be wavy, twisted, out of square or all of it. I made the following photo-tutorial a couple of years ago for somebody who ordered a large canvas print. Shipping such a big format stretched is quite expensive so I encouraged the buyer to mount it by himself because it's actually not a big deal if you know how to do it right.
I hope the images are sufficiently self-explanatory. If not, don't hesitate to ask me!

It's trickier to stretch a printed canvas because you have to align it perfectly with the frame. To make this easier I drew a contour of the actual printed area on the back of the canvas so the frame could easily be positioned.

Finally you stretch the frame with wedges. Just don't stretch it too much because when you prime the canvas it will shrink a little and too much tension might twist the frame!
