## What is GPUGrid

GPUGrid is a volunteer computing project in the field of biomedicine. With the help of many volunteers the team behind GPUGrid can perform molecular simulations. The goal of this simulations is to understand the different functions of proteins in diseas and health. The project is run by _Universitat Pompeu Fabra_ a university in Barcelona (Spain).

## Research topics

### Cancer
One of the research topics is cancer and how the drug resistance and the malfunctions of the caner cell work.

### HIV/AIDS
They are investigating how the maturation of HIV starts and what the role of the protein protease is.

### Neural Disorders
They are also investigating important proteins that are very hard to examine with traditional methods.


## Why should I donate my computing power
Simulations as the ones run by the GPUGrid are very computationally demanding and normally need a supercomputer to run. But the processing time of a supercomputer is very expensive and due to that many researchers don't have access to a supercomputer. Nonetheless research in this fields are important and increase the chance to find a cure to cancer and many other diseas. So when your computer is running anyway why not help science and humanity?
