Sevenavank Monastery. Armenia. 9/22
Arriving at Lake Sevan late afternoon, the sun already over the horizon, it was, how can I put this?

Covering an area of 340S miles, Lake Sevan is the largest lake in the Caucuses, and at 6,200 ft above sea level is one of the largest fresh water high altitude bodies of water in the world.

There has been a monastery here since the 9th century of the common era, and the land was originally an island, which became a peninsula when Uncle Joe drained the lake causing a drop of level circa 60 ft.

The complex consists of two churches:

Surp Arakelots meaning the "Holy Apostles" and Surp Astvatsatsin meaning the "Holy Mother of God

Both of which were heavily restored in the 1950's.

It was quite a hike up here but there were several people busy lighting candles, I just stood near them to try and get some warmth back into my bones

There are no spectacular stories of mischief and mayhem no outstanding bits of architecture to see but Sevanavank is one of the most visited tourism sights in Armenia.

So that was it time to face the challenge of a downhill jog back to the warmth of the bus
