Why Steemit Will Never Replace Facebook

Don't get me wrong, I love Steemit. Day by day I find myself spending less time on Facebook and more time here. I really like the experience as I find more and more interesting things floating around. The fact that I see less pictures of people getting drunk, their friggin breakfast or a bunch of duck face selfies, propaganda media and annoying ads are giving me the hope that there are still people out there who really care about content. Most of you already know that it's a matter of time before Steemit becomes viral, and when that time comes a huge amount of people are going to flood to Steemit because they would want to earn money.

You may ask why would Steemit never replace Facebook? The answer is quite simple. Ego. Most of the time people use Facebook, Instagram and other social media to boost their self esteem. We have the technology to communicate instantly with people from the other side of the globe, form communities, fight for causes, free the news and so much more, yet the majority waste time on social media playing Facebook games, uploading pictures with their new hairstyle or just tagging and commenting with friends about their new visit to the mall. It is the media of the consumer. They don't want to spend 30 minutes reading a blog about how decentralisation changed their life. With Fabcebook you choose what information you want others to see about yourself. Or you can hide behind a mask, go on a rampage and troll 24/7. Basically creating a false reflection of yourself. So the mindset is already there and no matter how much better Steemit is, it will never replace Facebook.
