It’s thought provoking to analyze the plain terrorizing mentality and flat out injustice regarding police officers. Knowing that cops get away with murder and your complete inability to defend yourself from them is a terrifying thought. Even if you are doing nothing wrong and a cop trails you their presence holds a power that makes you feel as though you are doing something wrong and a real fear to be stopped by one, with a potential of them having a bad day and their ability to take advantage of you by threatening your life without any responsibility or repercussions.

Weather you believe police officers are good or not isn’t the debate, cops are privileged and are enforcing unjust laws to collect revenue for the state, a large portion of the money they collect from the poor(keep them poor) are for victimless crimes that the officers themselves often commit without any penalty.

Police often plague my dreams to beat, shoot and hold me or my loved ones hostage, the sense of helplessness that comes from these scenarios is indescribable. Which brings me to the blatant hypocrisy of being able to protect myself from anyone trying to physically harm me, except from cops, just because they claim I am doing something wrong or something they don’t approve of, badges don’t grant you extra rights. If you were to beat your neighbor for doing something victimless, that you think is wrong, you would be reprimanded, but police have no accountability.

And why should parents hold this exact power over their children? As a child I was as afraid of my father as I am currently fearful of police, this is because they hold an untouchable authority image over me. Just because you deem something your child did to be wrong, especially if no one was hurt, why should you be able to lay a hand on and put them in that helpless state of mind? “To teach them a lesson” isn’t the answer, hitting a child only conditions them into believing excessive force is okay when an outsider deems it appropriate.

This mentality starts at home, seeps into schools in the form of bullying, makes it’s way into frat houses with hazing and even continues into professions(like police), and on up to secret societies, but it starts with children and that is where the healing needs to be amended. We need to do better as parents and bring our children up in a healthy and nurturing environment, but the only way for us to achieve this is to heal ourselves first, we must look inward and heal our traumas so that we don’t pass them along to our children.

A better future starts with us, let’s make healing and education the thing that we pass down from generation to generation.
