A Geeky Guys Guide to Untold: The Liver King
Today I decided to clean my basement. Because I have ADHD, that means I also have to find a second thing to do while cleaning. Asking me to do only one thing at a time is like... SQUIRREL!

One of my favorite things to do while doing a mundane task is to watch stand up comedians or mini documentaries. One of the best documentary series is Untold on Netflix. Although I have not seen all of them yet, I have never seen a bad one. They are all very high quality even if I end up not caring about the topic at all.

_Spoiler alert. This shit ain't natural._

The episode I watched today was all about a dude who calls himself The Liver King. Because Hive is literally the only social media I consume, I had never even heard of The Liver King before the documentary popped up in my Netflix suggestions (but believe me, I can tell you all about Mooncarts and Stakehouse Den). Untold documentaries always have something interesting or a controversy. I honestly wasn't sure what this one would be. Just from the picture alone I was like "OK so it's about an internet dude on steroids" who spews a ton of "masculinity". "I wonder if he stole crypto, planned a heist, or was the suspect in some other crime."

So I sat down and watched and for the first half of the show. All they talked about was how he had sick kids who he magically cured by feeding them organ meat. I was like, "That isn't for me, but he is right that it can't be good to feed kids (and adults) so many processed foods and preservatives". But I also thought that there had to be some middle ground between McDonald's and eating raw testicles from a bull you just shot. Maybe grow some fruit and vegetables in your garden and raise some chickens? But whatever. He was pimping "the 9 tenets of the ancestral lifestyle". Fine. Although it seemed a bit extreme, the ideas of getting back to nature and spending time with your family seem like just really good advice for anyone.

In between showing The Liver King, his "queen" and his 2 sons, it looked like a commercial for his supplements his company was selling. Instead of eating raw testicles, you could have those same testicles in a pill. Yum! They spliced in some of his Youtube and Instagram videos of him doing crazy workout and "masculine" stuff. But where was the controversy? Did I accidentally stumble upon an infomercial?

_What's under the hat? I'm guessing it's a syringe._

And then there was the big "reveal". Even though he repeatedly denied ever taking steroids, it turns out he actually was! Dun, dun dunnnnnnnn!

Um wait. _That_ was the controversy? Normally I would have warned that I was about to give away a spoiler, but come on. How was that a mystery. You know how I knew he was on steroids? I have freaking eyes! I never for one second though it was in the realm of possibility that he wasn't juicing. Because duh. He was.

Untold really let me down on this one. Will there next big reveal be that... water is wet?! Or that the sky is blue?! Or that any team owned by Jerry Reinsdorf is doomed to fail?!

But to prove how well these shows are made, even the fact that I literally laughed out loud at "the reveal", I still enjoyed the show. It was actually kind of interesting to watch this guy lie to everyone including himself. Actually I think the big controversy or reveal may be how fame can get you to do stupid things like tell the most blatant lie in the world and expect there will never be any consequences. Although sadly, that is the case for things far more important than some snake oil salesman on the internet. Far too many people take advantage of the fact that if you tell a lie loud and often enough, people believe it like the truth. And just like the Liver King, the people who follow that tenet are just as obvious and their fans are just as oblivious.

So a show about a juicing snake oil salesman got me to reflect on the larger world. See I told you the show is good. Oh and my basement looks great! (Or is that just a lie I'm going to repeatedly scream?)

So did anyone look at this guy and thing "that looks natural"? Had you even heard of this guy?
