0.000 HBDNEWBIES INITIATIVE TASK: SECOND NEWBIE TASK
In the last Newbie Initiative discord meeting, some discussion were made where we newbies were guided on some of the rules of the Hive community things we should and not do as a newbie in order to make progress positively as a blogger. And we were assigned a new task pertaining to what we discussed and learned from the meeting, so here is my task below: **WHY MUST YOU AVOID PLAGIARISM?** Plagiarism according to the dictionary, *means copying of another person’s ideas, text or other creative work, and presenting it as one’s own especially without permission. *With this meaning, plagiarism is simply a bad act of taking advantage of another person’s work without citing the owner for your personal gains. For example, like me, I was a doer of this kind of act as of recent and it backfires. In this community plagiarism is a sin and once you commit it, there is always a punishment for such act such as losing your reputations, getting downvoted and possibly losing rewards. So as a newbie and also long-time members one must avoid doing it so as not to be a plagiarist. **HOW DO YOU SOURCE A TEXT OR IMAGE ON HIVE AND WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SOURCE?** With the way Hive community is being designer and programmed, sourcing an image or text is easier than one expected it would be. Sourcing can be achieved by inserting words inside brackets [ ] and the source links inside parentheses ( ). ***And why do you have to source?*** Most of the times we probably have to use someone’s else text, quotes, ideas or images like downloading image from websites such as Pixabay, Freepik, Pinterest and so on. So one has to source where the image is taken from, and the reason is to give credit to the owner, help your audience to do more or further research on your topic sentence and also avoid being a plagiarist. **WHY YOU SHOULD NOT TAG NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON YOUR POST?** I think most people tag a lot of people on their post simply because they want more audience to view and engage more on their posts. Tagging someone on a work he or she has no impact or effect on might be as an insult to the person, it’s like using someone’s image right with his/her consent. **WHY YOU SHOULD NOT PUBLISH THE SAME ARTICLES NUMEROUS TIMES?** When the readers realized you posted the same thing over and all over again they won’t bother to check the content again because they’re already familiar with what you published. Such act is very bad as it might also dent your reputation especially in this Hive community. The community needs new content each day, they needs to learn and gain new things, and your content should be the one to guide them. **WHAT IS THE ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF ARTICLES YOU CAN PUBLISH PER DAY?** As a newbie, they is no need to rush in delivering 2 to 3 articles per day like most longtime users. It is essential to at least publish once per day, with time one will develop on publishing good contents. It is better to post at least a reasonable and creative article per day than posting senseless and unattractive articles thrice a day. **WHAT IS THE IMPORTANT OF ENGAGEMENT?** Engagement is important as a newbie so as to get more views and audience. Engagement also helps in building one's profile as a blogger. When you engage in other people's article, you can through that make new friends, and gain access to them giving their time in checking up on your articles and probably upvotes you and guide you through the community. **WHAT OTHER POINTS DID YOU LEARN FROM THE VIDEO?** One particular point I learned from this meeting, is posting in the right community. Each article definitely has where it belongs, so when you post in the wrong community it might affect the upvotes and rewards. Like for example, posting about techs definitely belongs to a community where technology, science and engineering is it's main purpose like @STEMgeeks, and movies and TV shows belongs to @Movies and TV Shows. > **Appreciation goes to the organizers behind this initiative and newbie tasks @starstrings01, @projectmamabg and @aliento**.
