New Year’s Eve is Here... What Exceptionally Interesting Thing Happened to You in 2017?
Hey Steem Crew!!

The end of the year is monumental. Many among us use it as [time to reflect](), inevitably bringing up the big questions of life and how we spend our valuable time.

A year is a huge chunk of temporal matter, too large to assess through blanket statements. Looking back at the immense cast of characters you met and events you experienced throughout the 365 days can be dizzying.

We categorize the past in years and even decades, but is this reasonable? Is it even possible to look at a year that just happened and gauge it accurately? Probably not...

Good vs. Bad Years (Don’t Exist)

In the end there’s no perfect year and there are hopefully not too many terrible years either. Most of our ~80 years on this earth are a wide spread: a few big wins, a few bad losses, and then a bunch of mundane tomfoolery in-between.

Much of my happiness in 2017 was dictated by my having eaten some good food or having heard a cool song. I was in a good mood for a week when I discovered and binged through Rick and Morty, just enjoying it - and in a bored mood the day after I ran out of episodes.

When my entire mental well-being can be hijacked on a second-to-second basis, IDK how a whole year can be any one way. Years mostly aren’t so good or bad. They just kinda ARE. You dig?

Of course there are exceptions in cases of extreme tragedy or good fortune - but a lot of us, most years, don’t experience either of these extremes.

As such it is great to think of what the biggest, most interesting memories are from the past year. Regardless of how “good” or “bad” the year was, there is generally at least one notable event or span of time during which something radical happened. This makes for a good story with which to send off the year.

Most Interesting to Me

I think the most interesting period of time for me in 2017 was when I moved to Raleigh.

It all started with my friend’s wedding in New Hampshire, where I [DJ’d the dance party](https://steemit.com/travel/@heymattsokol/travel-blog-a-dj-gig-at-a-friend-s-wedding-in-beautiful-new-hampshire-d-part-1) and generally helped to deal with audio equipment throughout the three days. I also partied my face off.

Then I was back home in Connecticut for some quick goodbyes - a dinner of chicken wings w/ my dad and uncle, a breakfast at the local diner with my brother, also I watched the Tim & Eric 10th Anniversary Special during that time which stands out to me lol.

Finally, I left for Raleigh - with a pit stop in Philly to smoke some blunts and visit my mom - and landed at @elmelanson’s apartment where I crashed for like three weeks before finally finding my own apartment to rent.

That was a whirlwind of a month. Afterwards, I had some shellshock. Everything went from being so chaotic, to suddenly being pretty simple after I settled into my new home. Luckily the cryptocurrency market would soon go crazy and give me a new dose of chaos.

What’s Your Most Interesting Story from 2017?

OK, lay it on me. What was interesting this year for you? I’ll dish out some 100% upvotes in the comments if there are any particularly good stories.
