Clearing Away The Physical & Virtual Garbage To Make Space For What Matters...
This morning I was cheerfully shredding a box-load of notebooks while listening to the Crypto Mondays show ( https://ctptalk.com/hive-119826/@jongolson/talpscme ) hosted by @jongolson and @blainjones, when Blain quoted something from a book he's reading that jumped out at me:

*"In order for it to work we have to clear away the garbage that is stopping us from accomplishing our desires"*

After googling the quotation, I'm pretty sure the source is Joe Pulizzi, possibly his book "Content Inc", and the *"it"* in the quotation refers to "Record and Repeat."

(Source: https://www.joepulizzi.com/category/articles/page/2/ )

"Record" = write down your BIG goal and how you plan to achieve it.

"Repeat" = review your goal every day and believe that it is possible.

**"Remove" = get rid of the garbage that's holding you back...**

I had to chuckle because there I was clearing space by shredding eight years' worth of "garbage" at the very moment that Blain read that quotation!

I filled three bin liners with shredded notebook paper!

This is part of a long-term "moderate minimalist" project of mine to reduce clutter and open up both physical and mental space to focus on the things that matter.

## Reducing Social Media Clutter Too ##

Last month I began to attack my online social media clutter as well.

Here's a list of social media accounts that I've shut down recently:

**Instagram** - I was so irritated by how difficult it was to close the account that I made a point of doing so.

**Facebook Pages** - I reduced the number of pages I run to just three, which will also get the chop if I don't use them... (I'm keeping my main Facebook account, however. (I'm keeping my main Facebook account, however.)

**Twitter** - Yup, I can do without you too. My primary account has gone. Smaller blog-related ones might just as well be deleted too.

**Linked-In** - This was dead easy to eliminate. Total effect on my business? Zero.

**Pinterest** - Yeah, I liked this one, but do I need it? Not at all. My primary account has gone. Smaller blog-related ones might just as well be deleted too.

**Tailwind** - Ha ha, the idea that I would spend hours of my life using Tailwind to promote my Pinterest pins was really quite laughable.

**Blogger** - Yep, I had a bunch of defunct blogs here, of which I eliminated all but one.

## How Will I Grow My Business Without Social Media?? ##

Well, of course, there is the Hive blockchain, and sitting on top of it is CTPTalk!

And I'm not going to stop using NoiseCash either!

But apart from that, the primary way that I bring people into my orbit is by building my list through **viral mailer marketing**.

Using viral mailers (aka "safelists") has consistently been the single most effective way for me to grow my mailing list over the last 15 years, and that is what I intend to focus on. It is through my email letters that my people will (if at all) come to "know like and trust" me. My Wordpress blogs and CTPTalk/Hive presence will support that effort.

Of course, this approach will not suit everybody, so feel free to offer your perspective in the comments. Are you a keen tweeter or a Facebook fanatic? Does the time you spend promoting yourself and your business on social media pay off for you? Let me know!

Cheers
