Compiling a software list for my new build
It may shock everyone that as much of a computer nerd and geek that I am - I don't have Windows image or back up. I consider my boot drive a highly disposable item, as all my important data is backed up elsewhere - whether it lives on my network attached storage, offsite storage, or the cloud - its out there.

All I need is a computer to access the "stuff".

What I don't have, is a go to list of software that MUST be installed on my computer to make it "production ready", ie to enable me to complete my day to day functions.

I'm a heavy windows user, because a) Photoshop, and b) gaming - as those are the primary functions of my computer.

So for this post, you'll get an insight into what is installed on my computer, and what will make its way onto my new PC. First, I'll write a list of what I consider must haves, from the top of my head, in order of importance.

- Google Chrome
- Adobe Photoshop
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, in particular)
- Notepad++
- WinRar
- One Drive Sync
- Google Drive Sync
- Steam
- Filezilla / FTP client
- Discord
- GPU Drivers

These are all of the things I would use on a daily basis, as far as my day to day computing is concerned.

Then, there's other things which are used with far less frequency. For that, I'm going to have to consult my list of currently installed programs...

- Bamboo (These are the drivers for my tablet that I use to do my photo editing with!)
- CPUID (To check hardware anomalies when I'm tweaking things!)
- HEIF Image Extensions (This allows me to see my camera's RAW files as thumbnails in Windows Explorer)
- NEF Codec (as above)
- Logitech Gaming Software (for my mouse)
- OBS Studio (For screen recording / streaming)

To my surprise, that isn't a very long list - and it is the sort of stuff that will all fit on the tiniest of USB drives.

Are there any key pieces of software which you use, that I'm missing? Tell me what I'm forgetting about. I like to run a fairly lean operating system, with as little extra software as possible installed.
