The post I made yesterday, about whether or not I should upgrade my home computer was one that I was agonising over for... quite some time. While it may have only take mere moments to read the post - its something that has consumed much - many, many hours of my time, researching, scouring through product manuals to ensure items are compatible with another - and it was a research rabbit hole that I kept finding myself falling into with deeper and deeper obscurity. With everything that you do - there's something called opportunity cost. If I do this thing, I don't have the time to do this other thing. Therefore, if I do this thing, it then means, later, I can do this other thing. Instead of perpetuating the ongoing choices, research, and "should I?", "shouldn't I?" I jumped. I did some more research, used some discount codes, and as a result, have now ordered the components for a new PC (well, at least, for the central nervous system of a new PC) - Ryzen 9 3900X (Using its stock cooler) - 32GB of DDR4 3600 CL16 (as 2x16 sticks) - Samsung 860 EVO Plus nvme SSD - ASUS X570 Prime CSM Motherboard All up, including Windows 10, and delivery, it will cost me just under $1800 Australian Dollars. That isn't an insignificant sum of money, but considering my last major computer upgrade cost me around $4000 and lasted for four years and four months (and will no doubt be employed in some other task, or sold to recoup some of the value inherent in the components...) I am justifying to myself that its a good deal. I haven't got any buyers remorse yet - perhaps that will come when the parts arrive...? Who knows? Stay tuned for further updates as I obtain parts and start to build this beast, as well as disassemble my old PC (I'll be reusing the same case!)
