A while back, I shared with you how excited I am to be traveling to Barcelona in the summer. I'll be staying for precisely one month, which I hope will give me plenty of time to explore both the city and nearby destinations, and get in some beach time. So when I wrote here, I'd booked my Airbnb, but not my flights. Both traveling to and being in Spain are quite expensive in the summer, so I tried to put it off hoping for some freaky drop in prices. Buying plane tickets for me is not easy. Well, the act itself is about as natural as breathing. What I mean is, I like to investigate various routes and options so I can make an informed purchase. Which takes some time and planning. I swear, I'm never as organized as when booking flights. My flight into Barcelona is pretty straightforward. However, flying out seemed an unjustified expense, so yesterday, I spent a good few hours coming up with alternatives. *I mean, if it's cheaper to fly somewhere else instead of home... why not?* I had hoped I could cut some costs flying in through Sofia, in neighboring Bulgaria, but I guess the prices must've gone up, because returning through Bulgaria would've cost me a day off my trip, without a significant reduction in cost. But every other option seemed to be expensive, also, so reluctantly, I had narrowed it down to two direct flights into Bucharest one on my intended return and a slightly cheaper one a day early. I wasn't thrilled about paying what to mean was an exorbitant amount for a mere flight, but what can you do? Well, ever the skewed investor, I thought well, if I'm going to be investing this money anyway, let's see if I can squeeze in some extra bit of fun for the same amount. Off I went on another tangent, and eventually, I found this~ **Option A** was flying in straight from Spain to Bucharest. **Option B** was catching an early morning flight into Milan on that same day, then catching a midnight flight on the same day back to Bucharest. I couldn't believe my luck. The two flights came up cheaper than the direct one, leaving me with a nice bit of cash to cover stuff like travel and espresso for that day in Milan. <center>  *Having trouble finding a picture from Milan, so here's me and Hemingway. On a beach (in Spain). On an adventure. As should be.*</center> Now, I'm aware it seems a bit of a mad plan. Mid-August is probably going to be hectic temperatures throughout most of Europe, and why would I want to lug around a suitcase through the scorching heat for an entire day when I could fly straight home all nice and cozy? I dunno. I'm sure there's people who would've just said fuck it, I'll take the direct flight. But I figure, if I can reasonably not pay more *and* get an extra day of fun (in another country, and in a city I love), why on Earth would I choose the other one? Because it's easier? More convenient? Less hassle? Admittedly, my own plan involves a fair bit of hassle, coming in from one airport, running around Milan in the heat, then running to another airport. But it also sounds like tremendous fun. Besides, I knew I'd feel bad about spending all that money on a plane ticket. Now, I'm spending the same amount of money on an experience. How could I feel bad about that? **Besides, some of my favorite traveling memories happened during just such hectic, self-planned transit journeys. In the middle of the pandemic, back in 2020, I flew across the country so I could then fly into Berlin (they only allowed flights from *some* Romanian cities due to BS), so I could then fly into neighboring Moldova. All so I could bypass quarantine. All in like 36 hours. Amazing memories. As I'm sure this will be.** ## When it comes to travel, do you tend to opt for the hassle-free easy options, or do you like packing an adventure for yourself?
