MY APPROACH TO MAKING DECISIONS
<div class=text-justify>

Making a decision is something that requires some processes and when these processes are ignored, it gives room for pointing fingers, regrets and making excuses. So many times, we always find ourselves making decisions even without thinking or following any process and when things don’t go as we planned, we start looking for someone to blame for how things have turned out. And as humans, we are faced with situations that requires us to make decisions every now and then which might be the reason why most of us just skip the major part of carefully processing our thoughts before making a major or minor decision.

So for today’s Hivelearners topic, we are asked to share how we make decisions. Unfortunately, just like most people out there, I’m really quick to making decisions and most of the time I have suffered huge setbacks because of it. Well, the difference from me and some of those people will be that I don’t enjoy blaming others for my actions, I try my best to be responsible for my actions which also help me do better next time. I have been in a situations when I was blamed for someone’s actions and it wasn’t nice at all and that is why I don’t want to do that to anyone. Well, without further ado, let me tell you how I try to make decisions on days when I’m thinking straight, lol.

The first process I follow in making decisions is by weighing the different options I’m presented with. Knowing what I’m up against, it helps me know the consequences of every decision I make moving forward. And one thing I always let myself know is that, I’m fully responsible for the outcome of that decision, whether good or bad. And of course, I don’t want to suffer from bad decision making so I try to take my time most times because I know making decisions in haste hardly ever helps. The other process is asking myself how that decision will benefit not just myself but others. Most times I become selfish and think just about myself and I pay dearly for that. After considering the effect of my decision on others, most times it gives me a clearer picture of what my decision outcome will be.

If I still find it hard to make a better decision, it is then I employ the last process *~~(I consider this one of the best processes)~~* which is seeking advice from the word of God and those around me. At this point, I’m fully ready for whatever the outcome will be because I believe it will be in the best interest of everyone and not just myself. Remember, this is how I make decisions when I’m not in a haste and letting my emotions cloud my judgement.

Basically, those are the approaches I take when making a decision, major or minor. And like I said, some influences I look out for are people, the word of God and the thoughts about what the consequences of my decision too. When all of these things are in place, it becomes more easier to make a decision. And the step I take to ensure the best case scenario no matter how the decision works out is that I try to be flexible and opened to learning. I won’t always get it right but I’m sure things will be better if I’m able to accept my mistakes and learn to do better. Besides learning, I also take my time to reflect on my choices to help me make better choices next time.

I can be strong headed when it comes to the decisions I have made but I try to accept it when I know I might be holding onto the wrong decision. It is hard but it becomes easier for me when I put God in the picture most of the time, no matter what the decision is about and it has been really helpful.

In conclusion, since decision making is something we engage in from time to time, it’s hard to follow a process but then, I have come to learn that taking your time to make decisions pays off better than always being in a haste to make a decision. And whether I like it or not, there will always be things influencing my decisions and it is not wise to ignore those things because I want to prove a point. And then, I always bear it in mind that things might not always go my way so I prepare myself to be responsible for my actions even as I expect the best.

Until next time, stay tuned. 🌹
