RECOGNIZING THAT GAP
<div class=text-justify>

When it comes to balancing my life’s needs and wants, I believe that I lack in some ways but I won’t want to say that money is the major factor hindering me from getting the right balance. Growing up as a child, my dad had a lot of bills to settle alone taking care of his 3 children. He did his best to take us to the most affordable schools so we could learn well and he provided most of the recommended textbooks for us. As a child, I knew my dad was working so hard to make sure we got everything we needed so I most times didn’t tell him of some of the books we were asked to buy in school because I felt the expenses will be too much for him.

I only told him of those compulsory books that every student is mandated to have. As for the other text books recommended, I asked around from those who have finished that grade and luckily for me, I got a few of them. As I grew older, moving into the higher institution, I noticed that that part of my life was still lacking because I have already been too used to not buying books that can aid me in my studies. So, if there is any part of my life that is suffering, it will be the part of my academics and that is because as a student, I have no hard copy text book I can rely on for information.

Recently, I was given a seminar supervisor and he gave me a topic to research on for my presentation. The first question he asked me was what textbooks do I have and when I told him I have them as soft copy on my phone, he was really disappointed and he said he wonders how I plan to pass my exams well. When he said that, although he later allowed me do the research with the soft copy accompanied with online articles and also using the library, I felt a bit embarrassed and ashamed at my self as a student. Like he said, how am I even a student if I don’t have at least one textbook related to my course of study.

It’s a bad habit and I know for a fact that I have to do something about it. I’m still yet to completely make up my mind to buy some textbooks as related to my course but I’m glad my supervisor has made me see more reasons why it is a necessity to have at least one textbook. Bedsides school books, I don’t even have any other books except note books where I write on. When I see how much people spend daily on books, I admire them and not until recently, I never really cared about it but now, I feel I have to wake up from my slumber, lol.

My goal is to get at least two physiology textbooks since that’s what I’m studying in the university and some self help books before the end of this year. I’m not sure when in the year I will get them but I will most likely talk about them on hive when I do. Books are valuable and I don’t enough, sadly. I guess I must be really fortunate because I still strive to read different materials online but I’m very sure I would have done way better in my academics if I had more physical books. But, I’m just happy that I have recognized the problem that needs fixing and I will start working towards it.

This is my entry to the #kiss. Thanks for reading through. ❤️
