<div class="text-justify"> One amazing thing about literature is mirroring society. You have an important message to pass across, all you have to do is put it out there in writing, and boom! Mission accomplished. The book Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl tackles various aspects of the society. We had the family dynamics, love triangle, religious fanaticism, vaginismus, and some many others. In this post, I’ll be focusing on Vaginismus in the book and I apologize in advance as there will be spoilers. Vaginismus is a condition that not many people are aware of or even talk about. Research shows that 5–17% of women experience vaginismus. >Vaginismus is a condition in which involuntary muscle spasm interferes with vaginal intercourse or other penetration of the vagina. This often results in pain with attempts at sex [source]( https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/joya-goffney/confessions-of-an-alleged-good-girl/) A lot of women are unaware that they have this condition and people who do, do not have sufficient knowledge or information to help them. As a result of this, so many women are oblivious of this condition. Joya Goffney writes a masterpiece to explain this condition in the most simple way. Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl is not meant only for women with vaginismus but for everyone who needs to educate themselves on this condition. Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl explores the life of a teenage girl who is a preacher’s kid. Being a preacher's kid comes with so many responsibilities so Monique tries to put up an appearance but hates religious activities. We see Monique who is madly in love with her boyfriend of two years Dom, who together are supposed to be the ideal “couple” for every youth to follow. Dom and Monique try to be intimate for 29 times but are unsuccessful as Monique’s body does not grant Dom access. With every attempt, she is left with unbearable pain. After waiting for two years Dom breaks up with her. Monique in a bid to get answers to her condition teams up with Sasha whom she hates and resents and Reggie a boy who Monique’s father is trying to save spiritually and physically. We are taken on a journey where we see Monique seek answers and try to “fix” her body upon discovering she has Vaginismus. She and her teammates do all they can to help her get over her vaginismus even though it requires them to steal dilators from the hospital. In this book, we get to see how different characters respond to Monique’s condition (vaginismus). We see Dom her supposedly boyfriend of two years who isn’t interested in helping her overcome vaginismus, all he ever cared about was to get intimate with her. We also see Monique’s father who does not respond so well to the news of Monique having vaginismus. As a father and a preacher, his only concern was her abstaining from sex, and he didn’t see the need for any medical attention. Dom and Monique’s father is the category of people this book was meant to educate. While Monique’s father was blinded by his fatherly love, he refused to acknowledge that his daughter needed help. Dom and Monique’s father’s reactions are the typical reactions people who have vaginismus get from not only their loved ones but also random people. I love this book. I love how we are pulled into the world of the story and we are left to sympathize with not just Monique but everyone with vaginismus. I love how Joya Goffney was able to educate people with this book. I love how she depicted the struggles people with vaginismus face and also enlightened us the readers on ways vaginismus could be treated. She highlighted the treatment procedures which could include exercises, materials, and many other things that can help women with vaginismus. I was hooked from the beginning of this book to the end. I didn’t want it to finish, I wanted more. For me, this book is a 10/10 as it’s not every day you get to see people explain certain medical conditions in simple words via writing. I strongly recommend this book to everyone, it just might help you or someone living with vaginismus. All images are screenshots from my phone. **Thanks for stopping by** **Loads of Love🥰🥰** **XOXO**</div>
