The changes I do not understand
<div class="text-justify">

According to the popular saying “20 children cannot play together for 20 years”, the same is applicable to life and the environment we find ourselves.

We celebrate change and growth, we appreciate how these two elements come into play in our lives.

While change is good some changes can be bad, altering our lives permanently and making us wish we could go back to the way we were before.

In the last 20 years, a lot has changed, some of these major changes have made our lives easier and better while some have become problematic both to our health and to our well-being. Our surroundings have changed, humans and our value system has changed too.

A particular change over here that I find disturbing is the normalization of bad behaviors, how we moved from upholding our moral values to throwing them as we keep going further in life is alarming, how a lot of people have normalized being mean and disrespectful to people is mind-blowing.

How did we get to the point where a 13-year-old or 15-year-old child can comfortably warn or threaten his or her elder? Or how did we get to the point where indecent dressing is now seen as a “fashion trend” and celebrated? Or bullying others on social media a trend to “catch cruise” (making fun of people)? This particular change and so many other negative changes that have occurred over the last 20 years here are worrisome.

This change has affected the way some parents train their kids, the new generational parents in a bid to be cool parents are letting their kids off the hook, more bullies and nuisances are being raised every single day, more robbers and liars are being raised as well. A parent who constantly tolerates a child’s bad behavior is only causing more harm than good.

I grew up knowing parents to discipline their children whenever they were naughty, stubborn, or disobedient. I grew up knowing that respect was everything and I also grew up knowing when to get into a relationship, but what I see these days is shocking. A child of 14 years is already in a serious relationship, like a serious relationship that is leading to where, please?

Something very funny happened a few weeks ago. On my way out of my compound, my neighbor’s daughter asked I wait and join her that someone was coming to pick her up, in my head I thought it was either an Uber driver or her uncle only to discover that it was her boyfriend, a very young boy so to say, this wasn’t the shocking part.

 I called her later that night to return my charger which she had borrowed and she said she wasn’t home that she was still with the guy and was going to come back the next day, I was stunned. This was a small girl going to spend a night with her boyfriend and her mum had bade her goodbye? Wow!

Like at such a young age, you are allowed to not just sleep out but you can also sleep in a man’s house? Super wow!😂

Maybe the cultural differences might get in the way of you understanding my point.
Over here it was a norm to first attain a certain age before your parents or guardians granted you permission to go out with a guy, sleeping over meant you had to have attained a certain age too!😂😂 but now you can go out and sleep over without your whole family wanting to kill you? Indeed the world is evolving.

Another change that bothers me is social media and the so-called Gen Z normalizing nudity on social media.

We’ve moved from the point where ladies would properly cover their bodies to ladies exposing their bodies and it is termed “sexy” and are being applauded for their stupid acts. Absolutely Preposterous!

While I love change and embrace it wholeheartedly I can’t help but wish some things remained the way they were as some of the changes have caused and are causing more harm than good and it’s disheartening.
