Mi recorrido por Gibara fue intenso, bonito y bastante abarcador… pero todo en un solo día. Tenía una lista mental de sitios por visitar, rincones por explorar y detalles que no quería dejar pasar, pero la vida se encargó de recordarme que nada es absoluto y que los planes, por muy bien pensados que estén, se pueden deshacer en un abrir y cerrar de ojos.

Después de darme un baño delicioso en la playa el viernes, ocurrió lo inesperado: un apagón masivo. Mi mamá y yo nos miramos con preocupación, y aunque ya estábamos listas para disfrutar otro día, decidimos que lo mejor sería regresar a Holguín temprano al día siguiente. Fue una decisión responsable, sí, pero no dejó de entristecernos. Creo que nos dolió más tener que irnos antes de tiempo que el apagón en sí.

Sin embargo, antes de partir, el amanecer me regaló un momento que no esperaba. Me levanté rápido, me vestí sin pensarlo mucho y salí al patio de mi abuela. Ahí estaba: un cielo teñido de colores cálidos, suaves, con el mar al fondo, calmo y brillante. Una escena que parecía sacada de un cuadro. Me sorprendió pensar que muchos que viven allí ya no se detienen a mirar estas cosas. Quizás están tan acostumbrados, que no se dan cuenta de la belleza que tienen delante cada día.

Me fui de Gibara con el corazón un poquito apretado, pero también lleno. A veces no hace falta recorrer cada rincón para sentir que un lugar te tocó. Gibara me regaló instantes, vistas, sensaciones… y una despedida sencilla pero especial, como esas cosas que no se olvidan.

My tour of Gibara was intense, beautiful and quite comprehensive... but all in one day. I had a mental list of places to visit, corners to explore and details I didn't want to miss, but life took care of reminding me that nothing is absolute and that plans, no matter how well thought out, can be undone in the blink of an eye.


After taking a delicious swim at the beach on Friday, the unexpected happened: a massive power outage. My mom and I looked at each other with concern, and although we were ready to enjoy another day, we decided it would be best to return to Holguín early the next day. It was a responsible decision, yes, but it didn't stop us from being saddened. I think it hurt us more to have to leave early than the blackout itself.


However, before we left, the sunrise gave me a moment I was not expecting. I got up quickly, got dressed without much thought and went out into my grandmother's yard. There it was: a sky tinged with warm, soft colors, with the sea in the background, calm and bright. A scene that looked like something out of a painting. I was surprised to think that many who live there no longer stop to look at these things. Perhaps they are so used to it, that they do not realize the beauty that is in front of them every day.


I left Gibara with my heart a little tight, but also full. Sometimes you don't have to walk around every corner to feel that a place has touched you. Gibara gave me moments, sights, sensations... and a simple but special farewell, like those things you never forget.
