 *Sunset from the Rocky Bluffs, Ucluelet* We have spent the last week or so exploring the beachside towns of Ucluelet and Tofino on Vancouver Island's west coast.  *Cox Bay, Tofino* As Australians we have been missing a "real" beach (ie. a beach with waves and sand instead of pebbles). So we were pleased to finally be able to spend some time on white sand, even if it was too cold to swim (although the local surfers didn't seem to think so). We were even lucky enough to have full sunshine most days too!  *Exploring the old growth forests* While in the area we did a lot of hiking through the old growth forests and bogs. One of my favourite trails was the Rainforest Trail. A 2km (1.2 miles) walk on an elevated boardwalk through old growth forest. Truly magical. The Lighthouse Loop in Ucluelet was also a favourite. It is a 2.6km (1.6 miles) coastal walk around Amphitrite Point. We also made time to indulged in some of the locally made beverages at Tofino Brewing Co, Tofino Distillery, Ucluelet Brewing Company, and Pacific Rim Distillery (we enjoy a drink or two haha!). We also spent some time beachcombing, and were treated to some stunning sunsets.  *Baleen from a whale found on Long Beach, Tofino* I can see how this place could become so crowded with tourists in the summer months. We have thoroughly enjoyed our quiet, winter visit. We hope to visit again some day (maybe when it's warm enough to enjoy a swim).  *Sunset at Amphitrite Point Lighthouse, Ucluelet*
