Profile Analysis Test shows difference in series of administered test. In a bid to elaborate on profile analysis, I will redefine what profile analysis is about, why is profile analysis test important and how to carryout profile analysis test.

What is profile analysis?

Profile analysis is a test in SPSS also termed test of difference that tends to view differences in scores of test.

As stated already in my introduction, it may be administered in medical, educational, chemical and even the psychological field.

The test can be administered in a question are format showing different profiles for abilities in sub requirements.

Example
In the educational sector, I'm interested in finding out if student who passed in a class that contains different sub classes have a difference in score in English, maths, computer and chemistry.

This example indicates that in a certain class, let's say grade four, it has sub classes such as grade 4 rose, grade 4 hibiscus, grade 4 candy and grade 4 shower. I am to analyze  the difference in the scores of English, maths,  computer and chemistry exams to see if there is a significant difference in all the sub classes of their grades in those subject.

Then the best test to go for is profile analysis test.

How to carryout profile analysis test in SPSS

As the profile analysis test measures the difference in test score, it is essential to understand the basics of carrying out the test in SPSS. This will also guide towards the Interpretation of the result.

To carryout profile analysis test, go to

Analyze 
Select general linear model
Click on repeated measures

A dialogue box will be displayed where you have to specify a within subject factor name.

The within subject factor name classifies the result of the analysis into two groups in the case of our example, the groups are pass and fail otherwise known as variable 'exam'.

Remember,
We want to analyze the difference in exams scores of pupils in grade 4 with the sub classes to know if there is a significant difference in the above listed subjects (English, maths computer and chemistry).

The next to be considered is number of levels. The number of level is the factors (subjects) we are considering.

It should be added as factor 1(4)

You can leave all setting as default.

You can aswell include profile plot. Including the levene test for homoscedasticity is also of good.


Output of the profile analysis test
The result of the profile analysis test present four tables which are;

Within - subject factor, between - subject factor and box test of equality of covariance.

Box test proves the hypothesis that test is homogeneous no difference.

You can either accept or reject the hypothesis based on significance level.

The next table is màulchly Test of sphericity shows that the items that build our subjects is different from each other base on significance level.

The profile analysis test is used to examine difference in test scores and should be the right test for exams of sub classes, even in medical field test can be used for analysis of patients view on a particular illness.
