Perkembangan energi alternatif saat ini sangat luar biasa ke depan. Sampai membuatnya menjadi sangat sederhana namun juga manfaatnya besar. Pada era yang sangat praktis dan efisien sekarang bukan tidak mungkin melanjutkan kelahiran alternatif energi yang berguna untuk saat ini dan masa depan. #### Kopi

Buah kopi, bagi manusia di ambil bijinya dan di olah menjadi minuman dan di gunakan untuk bermacam hal yang berguna . Ada 2 varietas yang paling banyak di budidayakan yaitu kopi arabika (75%) dan kopi robusta (20%). Itulah jenis kopi yang paling banyak beredar dan paling di gemari di seluruh dunia. Di setiap biji kopi robusta mengandung 1,7-4% kafein, dan untuk biji kopi arabika mengandung 0,8-1,4% kafein. Kopi robusta tumbuh subur di daerah yang mempunyai temperatur hangat di ketinggian sekitar 300-1500 mdpl di suhu 21-24*C, sedangkan untuk kopi arabika akan tumbuh di tempat yang mempunyai temperatur lebih dingin sekitar 1250-1850 mdpl di suhu 17-21*C. Tumbuhan kopi umumnya ditanam dengan jarak 2 meter antara pohon. Tingginya bisa mencapai sekitar 2- 10 meter, dan tanaman kopi membutuhkan sinar matahari yang banyak ketika akan berbuah. Tanaman perkebunan ini banyak ditanam di negara berkembang dan menjadi komoditas utama yang di ekspor.

#### Kopi dan Kesehatan

Kulit biji kopi juga mengandung antioksidan karena terdapat polifenol yaitu suatu senyawa kimia yang mana mampu mencegah dan mengobati penyakit degenerative kronik seperti diabetes, kanker, penyakit neurodegenerative, penyumbatan pembuluh darah, parkinson, jantung (kardiovaskuler), batu empedu. 

#### Baterai Dari Kopi

Manfaat kopi lainnya untuk bidang energi adalah mengolahnya menjadi baterai dengan bahan bakunya bubuk kopi. Proses membuatnya sangat mudah dan murah yaitu sebagai berikut : 

##### Alat dan bahan :

1.    Kopi bubuk,
2.    Air bercampur garam,
3.    Sebuah plat tembaga,
4.    Beberapa unit lampu LED,
5.    AVO meter/multitester,
6.    Sebuah gelas atau mangkuk dari alumunium.

##### Cara kerja :

1.    Letakkan plat tembaga di dalam mangkuk alumunium dan taruh plastik sebagai isolator,
2.    Plat tembaga di pasang di atas plastik tersebut,
3.    Masukkan bubuk kopi sampai penuh ke dalam mangkuk,
4.    Penuhi gelas atau mangkuk dengan air garam sampai bubuk kopi terendam seluruhnya,
5.    Saatnya memasukkan AVO meter dan mengetesnya pada posisi Volt DC.

Proses menjadi sumber energi ini sangat mudah dan sederhana, prinsip kerjanya aluminium sebagai anoda, sedangkan tembaga sebagai katoda., air garam berfungsi sebagai elektrolit. Yang akan terjadi bisa di katakan mirip seperti cara kerja yang ada pada baterai mobil. Setiap baterai dari kopi ini bisa menghasilkan energi listrik sebesar 1,5-1,7 volt, setara dengan ukuran baterai AA yang sering kita gunakan.

Baterai ini pertama kali di temukan dan di uji coba oleh Mischer Traxler. Pernah juga di di uji penggunaannya oleh Venice Design Week, sebuah festifal teknologi. Baterai yang di gunakan sebanyak 700 unit dan mampu memberikan tenaga pada jam yang ada di sana. Nespresso Capsule adalah nama baterai yang diberikan dan saat ini sedang di kembangkan guna dapat diproduksi secara massal, murah dan baterai juga ramah lingkungan.

Baterai konvensional mempunyai masa kadaluarsa dan setelah itu begitu saja di buang. Di situlah letak permasalahannya, baterai yang di buang akan berdampak buruk bagi lingkungan sekitar. Limbah dari baterai bekas sangat berbahaya bagi kesehatan mahkluk. Semua jenis baterai bekas seperti baterai jam tangan, mainan, remote, kamera digital, telephon selular tidak boleh di buang sembarangan karena termasuk limbah B3 ( bahan berbahaya dan beracun). Baterai yang tidak bisa di daur ulang dan semua jenis baterai konvensional itu mengandung logam berat dan zat-zat berbahaya lainnya yang bisa mencemari tanah dan air. Logam yang terkandung pada sebuah baterai seperti merkuri, timbal, nikel, mangan, kadmium, dan lithium. Akhirnya cepat atau lambat akan menjadi permasalahan serius bagi lingkungan dan membahayakan kesehatan manusia.
