How I Made Money on a Packet of Biscuits (Thanks to Inflation!)

A Small Stocking Decision That Paid Off

I was checking the price of biscuit carton, which was around 5,328 PKR—approximately 75 Hive.

This carton contains about 18 boxes of biscuits, and each box has around 16 packs of biscuits.

One pack costs 20 PKR, which is about 0.283 Hive.

I bought the carton for 5,328 PKR. As I mentioned, each carton has 18 boxes. The price I got as a shop owner for one box was 296 PKR, and I sell the box for around 320 PKR.

So, the profit on one box is about 24 PKR, and for the whole carton, I earn 432 PKR, which is roughly 5.86 to 6.26 Hive.

I bought 10 cartons, which cost 53,280 PKR which is around 750 Hive.

Most shop owners usually buy only 1 or 2 cartons, so the distributor gives different prices—those who buy in bulk get a discount. That’s why I buy in bulk.

For 10 cartons, my profit is 4,320 PKR, which is about 60 to 65 Hive.

In short, for spending 750 Hive, I’m earning around 60 Hive. Of course, this isn’t exact profit because there are other costs, like the price of the bags used to give the items to customers. Haha, I’m a businessman who keeps track of everything.

Now, here’s something interesting: when I bought the carton at 5,328 PKR on June 8, today (June 13), the price went up to 5,350 PKR—an increase of 22 PKR per carton.

So, on each carton, I’m earning 22 PKR more, which is 220 PKR on 10 cartons. That means my total profit on 10 cartons is now 4,540 PKR, up from 4,320 PKR. Inflation has actually made me more money! Haha.

Most local shop owners buy stock but don’t check product prices daily, so they sometimes sell at lower prices.

Whenever I buy stock, I check the prices. If prices go up, I sell at the new price.

This is how the biscuit carton looks, along with a display of the biscuit boxes.

The first picture shows a few cartons, there are more stored in our warehouse.

I usually buy a few cartons of biscuits—around 4 to 6.

But this time, I wanted to take a risk, and the demand for the biscuits was increasing.

On normal days, I usually make a profit of around 10 rupees per box. But this time, as I mentioned earlier, I bought in bulk. Because of that, the distributor (the person who supplies the products) gave me a discount,so I’m earning more on each pack.

This extra profit came not only from the bulk discount, but also because the price of biscuits went up (thanks to inflation haha!).

I used to avoid buying in bulk because of the risk—like the stock not selling and expiring.

But now, I’ve started taking risks, and it's paying off. Slowly, I’m realizing that buying in bulk is the way to go. The more you buy, the cheaper you get it.

**When I was younger, one thing I learned from my father was that the more sugar you add to tea or a sweet dish, the tastier and sweeter it becomes. It’s the same with business, the more you invest in it, the greater the return you’ll get.**

Slowly, I’ve started applying what I learned from my father to my business.

I'm investing little by little and making daily improvements, upgrading the shop and working on making everything more organized and well-managed.

As you can see in the picture, the way the biscuits are displayed looks pretty good and is attracting customers.

Now, let me show you how I’ve displayed the spices in my shop.

Right now, the spices might look a bit unorganized because they sell daily—it’s a fast-moving item.

Keeping them perfectly arranged all the time is a bit challenging, but we still manage and clean the area every day so customers don’t have to worry about anything.

My workers make sure everything is in place so customers can easily find what they need without wasting time.

In my shop, the layout is designed so things are easy to spot and well displayed.

As you can see in the picture:

One of the most important things for a shop owner is to always keep the products and the shop clean. A neat and tidy environment makes a big difference, and cleanliness of the products is even more important.

Unfortunately, many local shop owners don’t pay attention to the dust on their products. When a customer walks in and sees dusty items, they might think the product is old or expired, and choose not to buy it.

The cleaner your shop is, the more customers you’ll attract. A clean environment shows care, professionalism, and builds trust with your customers.

Conclusion

In the end, I’d just say this: always think big and be willing to take risks, but only when you’ve thought it through.

Taking a risk doesn’t mean blindly jumping into the water. Before you jump, know how deep it is and make sure you’re able to swim back out if needed.

Thanks for reading my blog all the way to the end. Have a great day! ❤️
