Reciprocate is an action when you respond for a gesture or an action shown towards you. >According to the top definition from [Merriam Webster Dictionary](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/reciprocate): *: to give and take mutually* So it's like giving back what you had taken or received from that person. Sometimes, people expect people to reciprocate for what they had given, and *reciprocating* is now becoming pressure towards a person, instead of giving it voluntarily. https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2017/12/26/13/09/business-3040477_1280.jpg [Source: Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/en/business-social-media-great-like-3040477/) People asking to upvote back --- In this platform, Steemit, people expect to be upvoted back if they upvoted you. Is it bad? I cannot say it is. Besides, they had spent percentage of their voting power by voting your own post. However, it's their decision when they upvoted you. I know some Steemit members, particularly the whales, who doesn't like being force to upvote back. Perhaps, many of you might have seen comments telling you to upvote them back. By this way, telling someone to do what they had done for you is like forcing them, instead of giving them a time to voluntarily reciprocate on your post by upvoting back. Telling every people you upvote to upvote becomes spamming. So beware, because instead of upvote, someone who's at the higher position might downvote you. Reciprocity can be a good thing --- Of course, reciprocity is also important. It sometimes become a moral obligation when someone has shown love without asking anything back. By reciprocating on them, a good relationship will be built, and even helps you to raise your reputation. Understanding someone who can't reciprocate --- We should be understandable if someone is unable to reciprocate especially on your posts here on Steemit. As we all know, Voting Power is limited, as well as bandwidth, and it takes about 2 percent spent from Voting Power when upvoting someone. With tons of members, upvoting posts would be limited. We should not get mad if someone is unable to reciprocate, for sure, they have their way to give back the love you have shown https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2017/06/13/12/51/thumb-2398753_1280.png [Source: Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/en/thumb-thumbs-down-down-bad-failure-2398753/) What if someone downvoted you? --- It can be an annoying thing when someone downvoted you. To be honest, I think I was downvoted three times. The first time I was downvoted was when there is this serial downvoter who downvotes posts at the feeds section. My post at that time was at the *Trending* section, by which the downvoter had downvoted those posts at the section based on what's indicated on his steemd.com page. The second time was when someone has resteemed my post, which automatically made my post visible at the feeds section. And those posts were downvoted including my post. Recently, my post was also downvoted by a new member which was only a few hours member actually. To be honest, I was enticed to downvote back. However, I realized not to go down on his level, and just do what I should do. At this time, reciprocating negatively is not my option. Conclusion --- Yes, reciprocating is a good thing. However, it should not be forced to someone. We should also not expect something back. Of course, we should also be understanding if someone fails to reciprocate as there might be reason/s why they are unable to. --- <center> Please support @surpassinggoogle as a witness by voting him at https://steemit.com/~witnesses and type in "steemgigs" at the first search box.
