Librarian Life: Look Calm, Try Not To Panic!
Today's library shift is anything but calm. No, it isn't especially busy today, and the kids are not especially obnoxious. The chaos is all behind the scenes.

The first news on arrival today was that a music event had to be cancelled due to the sudden hospitalization of one of the performers. Then the upcoming Pokemon party needed last minute signs and some final prep work to make sure it all runs smoothly next week. And the inaugural band scramble event later this summer is still far too up in the air for my liking.

I also need to start planning my fall teen/adult programs, including harvest fairy houses and a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

Nonetheless, I shall persevere. I just need to remember whatever that other important task I can't forget to do today was. Help me out here, people!

Addendum: Of course, today couldn't end without an irate patron story...

Our library has a specific privacy policy. You can't pick up books for other people without a note on their account specifically authorizing it *and* their library card. This policy was put in place because apparently one spouse had requested a book on divorce, and the other picked up the book after the hold was filled, resulting in chaos and a big administrative kerfluffle.

As a consequence of this policy, Librarian L. had to tell the spouse of a patron that he could not pick up her hold without her card. At 5 minutes to closing, she arrived to complain about this. Uffda. No explanations were satisfactory, so she will likely be complaining to our manager and the district administrators. Not my circus, not my monkeys...
