## Ways You Know You're Spending Too Much Time Behind the Computer

---

Hello Friends,

Phew, lately I have been planted behind my screen too much, like WAY too much, I feel like life is flying past, but then it is hard to stop as there are things I need to do. Anyway, that got me thinking about this, and I wanted to write an article on this topic, so...
‍
We’ve all been there. You spend so much time in front of your computer that you start to feel like you are part of the machine.

For some people, this feeling can lead to a vicious cycle of spending more time in front of the computer (*like myself), and spending more time on the internet.

While it’s not illegal to spend as much time as you want on your computer, there are some dangers lurking behind this type of overuse.

When you spend too much time in front of the computer, you run the risk of becoming depressed, anxious, or even developing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There are many other negative effects of spending too much time on the computer as well. It can have a negative impact on your social life, your relationships, and your work productivity. If this sounds like you, here are a few ways to tell you’re spending too much time on the computer.

---

## You’re Constantly Browsing the Web

If you spend most of your time browsing the internet, you may be spending too much time on the computer. Browsing only takes up a small amount of energy on your part, but can often lead to hours of lost productivity. Browsing the internet is a great way to find information and answers, but if you do it too much, you will never get anything done.

Browsing the internet is a great way to procrastinate and avoids productive tasks, like writing papers (*or posts for Hive), completing projects, or other work that needs to be done. Browsing the internet can also be a way to avoid social situations, such as seeing friends, going out to eat, or doing activities you enjoy. I have been guilty of this, lie for a second, look at FB, then BAM, the day is over. OMG.

Also, there are a few things you can do to help yourself stop. First, try to be aware of when you're doing it. Once you know when you're most likely to browse the web aimlessly, you can start to be more mindful of it. Second, make a list of things you want to accomplish during the day or week, and try to stick to it. If you have specific goals in mind, you'll be less likely to waste time on the internet. Finally, try to find other activities to do that can help take you away from the screen.

## You’re Constantly Checking Email

Most of us have received that email that has us checking email or messages constantly. It can be a work email, an email from a friend, or even an email from your boss. If you are constantly checking email, you may be spending too much time on the computer. Checking email can be a way to stay connected, but if you’re constantly doing it, you may be spending too much time on the computer.

For real, did you know that constantly checking email can be bad for your health? Studies have shown that constantly checking email can lead to increased stress levels and can even make you less productive. So what can you do to break the email checking habit? First, try to check your email only once or twice a day. And when you do check your email, try to limit yourself to a specific amount of time. Finally, make sure to take breaks throughout the day to avoid getting burnt out.

## Can’t Drive More Than 5 Minutes Without Staring at a Screen

We've all been there. You're driving along and you hear that familiar ping or vibration coming from your phone. You want to look, but you know you shouldn't. It can wait, right? But sometimes it's hard to resist the urge to take a quick peek. Here are a few tips to help you avoid the temptation of looking at your phone while you're behind the wheel: Put it out of sight. If you can't see your phone, you're less likely to be tempted to look at it. Put it in the glove box, the center console, or even the trunk if you have to. Or, just like putting on a seatbelt, Put your phone on silen when you get in the car, this way you may reduce the desire to look when you hear that "BING".

## You’re Constantly Playing Games

If you are playing games to avoid doing anything else, you may be falling into the trap of “addiction by displacement.” This happens when something you are using replaces something else that you should be doing. It could be work, school, spending time with family, or something else. If you are playing computer games when you should be doing something else, you may be losing out on important opportunities in life.

Like wise, if you find yourself spending hours upon hours playing video games, it may be time to re-evaluate your relationship with them. Here are a few tips to help you cut back on your gaming: Set a time limit for yourself and stick to it. Once your time is up, walk away from the game and do something else. Make gaming a treat, not an everyday occurrence. Only allow yourself to play on weekends, or on special occasions. Find a hobby or activity that you enjoy outside of gaming, and focus your attention on that instead. This can help take your mind off of gaming and give you something else to look forward to.

## Final Words: Take a Break from the Computer!

Computer overuse is a serious problem that can negatively impact your life in many ways. If you think you might be spending too much time on the computer, take a break and do something else for a while. Use your computer when you have to, but don’t let it become your main source of entertainment. You’ll be happier and more productive if you don’t let your computer become the only thing you do all day.

This is all advice for myself, and I hope it can help you as well become a better and stronger person!
