### I have recently been gifted with the honor to receive and pass on the ***Hive Torch***.

For those of you who do not know what the Hive Torch is, it was an idea started on Steem by a young lady named @geekgirl and you can read about the original Steem Torch project <a href="https://peakd.com/steem/@geekgirl/steem-torch"> HERE </a> after a BTC experiment by an anonymous Twitter user named @hodlonaut. It was called a Lightning Torch and you can get a good description of that project<a href="https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoins-lightning-torch-has-blazed-through-37-countries-so-far"> HERE </a>. It went on to end up at the Bitcoin Venezuela donation based group and donated to humanitarian aid, and you can read about that <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/lightning-torch-reaches-final-destination-over-04-btc-donated-to-humanitarian-aid"> HERE </a>. Then another Hive user by the name of @stayoutoftherz got the idea from @geekgirl's project, and started the Hive Torch project on Hive and you can read that post <a href="https://peakd.com/@stayoutoftherz/hivetorch"> HERE </a>.

### The "definition" of the ***Hive Torch*** is that it is a given amount of Hive that is transferred to another active user and then they pass it on to the next Hivian in the chain.

The idea is that someone takes and starts by sending a certain amount of Hive to another user who they deem to be trustworthy and relatively quick ( not me but I did it anyways lol). When they send it, they can leave it as is, or add somewhere between 0 and 1, but not more than 1 Hive and then the next torch bearer takes it and does the same thing. They keep that going usually for a certain designated number of passes, in this case I believe it's 333, and then they will determine what they will do at that point; either continue it further or stop it to donate it or ask the community what they would like to do with it.

## So what are the basics of the rules?

1. If someone passed the Hivetorch to you, increase the amount by 1, leave it as it is, or add anything between 0 and 1. It is up to you. Don´t reduce the amount and don´t add more than 1 Hive - it is not about collecting money.
2. Send the Hives as soon as possible to someone who is active on Hive and whom you trust that he/she will follow the rules and forward the torch to the next one.
3. In the transfer, use this Memo:
"Hivetorch - Count x - please read the rules at https://peakd.com/hive-147983/@stayoutoftherz/hivetorch"
whereby you increase the count no. by 1 (so if you got the memo with count "23" then put "24" in your memo).
4. Choose as the next Hivetorch keeper preferably someone who has not yet been selected and inform him/her about the transfer, so that the torch is kept in motion.
5. You are highly encouraged to create a post about the Hivetorch e.g. on peakd.com using the picture above or any other picture (the picture must contain both a torch and the Hive logo) and the tag #hivetorch. Please post it in the Hivetorch community.
