There are always new spots to discover and new things to capture with my camera. This isn't just a commercial and cultural hub, there is a lot of interesting historical sites for my eye's pleasure. I like historical places, colonial architecture, and artistic and distinctive designs. Strolling around the cities of Hong Kong is the best way to let my camera work. *Phonetography* has been my forte ever since I started traveling. I became a hodophile and a photophile, and my love for them grew over time. How I wish I could achieve my desire to buy a real camera so I wouldn't be disappointed with my shots. After visiting the [One Art Lane](https://ecency.com/hive-184784/@jane1289/amazing-walk-to-one-art-lane-hive-184784) one Sunday afternoon, I traveled to Central to wander around. I went to the Zoological and Botanical Gardens, Hong Kong Park, then walked along the streets of Central until dusk. I'll be sharing my travel blogs about these gardens and parks one of these days in separate posts. I've been to Central several times, but up until now, I haven't explored the whole metropolis yet. The first architecture that caught my attention that afternoon was the **[FCC or Foreign Correspondents' Club](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Correspondents%27_Club_(Hong_Kong)).** Just looking at it from a distance, I knew it was a historical building based on its architecture. It resembles the old police headquarters in [Tai Kwun](https://ecency.com/hive-163772/@jane1289/tyjitvqw), another historical compound. Based on the date shown on the building, the club was founded in 1917. This isn't open to the public, though, but only to the members of the club and the business and diplomatic communities. I spotted some restaurants, cafes, and an art gallery on the ground floor. This also serves as a meeting venue for the media. In Central, there are several historical sites and museums, but I've only been to a few. I kept on walking and traversed through this tunnel. This is close to the botanical garden that I went to. If the tunnel were a little bit longer, wouldn't this look cooler? From Hong Kong Park *(this is yet to be shared)*, I exited on another side and stumbled upon this area of Central below Victoria Peak. I was engrossed in the interesting architecture before me and beyond. I thought it was a historical place in Central because some of the architecture looked too old and historical. By that time, I wished I had strolled a little earlier. I should have explored each building, not just photographed them from the street. **[St. Joseph Church](https://www.stjosephs.hk/home)** in blue facades is one of the parishes for the Filipino and Chinese Catholic communities in Hong Kong. This, as well, is one of the historical parishes in Hong Kong, established in the early 1870s. The one today is a revamped structure of the original church that was destroyed by the typhoon in the past. Its architecture is quite distinct from other Catholic churches. If you happen to pass by here, you will see a big Filipino community gathering here every weekend and holiday. Just a few steps from the church are [**Helena May**](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Helena_May_main_building) with another captivating architecture. This architecture was built in 1914. The structure has been preserved and still looks the same as it did originally. It was named after Helena May, the daughter of Lieutenant [General George Digby Barker](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Digby_Barker). It now houses a huge library and serves as a private venue for private social club members. From the information itself, we can say that it's a place for wealthy and elite members of the club. At the back of Helena May is the [**St. Joseph College**](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Joseph%27s_College,_Hong_Kong), another historical site with Portuguese architecture. Established in 1875, it's the oldest Catholic boy's school in Hong Kong. I heard that students here came from wealthy families, making it one of the leading schools in Hong Kong. This alone has an interesting history. You can tap the link above if you want to know more about it. Just within the area, on the opposite road, is another historical architecture, the [**Government House**](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_House,_Hong_Kong) of the chief executive of Hong Kong. It is more like a presidential house in other countries. Established in 1855, it was originally built with colonial architecture but was revamped into a hybrid Japanese-neoclassical structure. From the higher area of Central, I went down the road and continued walking, where modern architecture awaited. From the historical area of Central, the main area is more like a modern city, where skyscrapers and iconic architecture can be seen. There are historical sites as well, and I took shots of a few modern and historical buildings. Can you see the modern building with colorful elevator lights? That's [**HSBC or Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation**](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSBC_Building_(Hong_Kong)) building. It was the colorful lights that caught my attention. Its light scheme was built for the Symphony of Lights, and this building is one of the participants. The [Symphony of Lights](https://ecency.com/hive-163772/@jane1289/wzbhwcvv) is a spectacular light show along the harbor every night. Check out my blog and video about it. The show was made to promote tourism in Hong Kong, and for sure, you will love it. The next modern architecture was [**Bank of China**](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_of_China_(Hong_Kong)) and [**The Henderson**](https://www.thehenderson.com.hk/vision/#the-icon) buildings located next to each other. Two of the iconic buildings in Central with distinct, world-class architectural designs. You will identify The Henderson by its bud-like architecture, inspired by the bud of the bauhinia flower, and it is one of the most iconic architecture in the world. Meanwhile, the Bank of China has a triangular framework with glass curtains like a bamboo stature. <center>From the right is Bank of China, and The Henderson on the left</center> From this area, I continued walking and passed by another historical site, the [**Former French Mission Building**](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Former_French_Mission_Building) which is captivating due to its neo-classical colonial architecture sitting on the slope of Central. I passed by this area several times but I never noticed the existence of this colonial building above me. At the end of the road is the [**Court of Final Appeal**](https://ecency.com/hive-188409/@jane1289/ofwlife-why-is-this-road-in-hong-kong-closed-on-sunday?referral=jane1289) which I featured in one of my blogs. *Click the link to read about it.* Its British architecture would surely catch one's attention passing by the street. And this is where my walk ended. Given that Central is the oldest city in Hong Kong, it has several historical sites and interesting modern and old architecture, making it the best spot for architectural street photography. ***(Click the links for references)*** **(All photos are mine)** <table><th><div class="phishy">Join her on her quest for self-discovery and wanderlust.
