Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

I've been on an art, sculpture, and fountains quest all week and found that the largest bronze sculpture in the world, according to the city of Dallas, is located right in downtown Dallas. Who knows, they may be right. 

Texas likes to pride herself in having the biggest everything. (They probably **do** have the biggest egos)

I love this sculpture though because it represents the famous Trail Drives of the 1800's which ran from South Texas up through Oklahoma and Kansas with most of them ending in Dodge City or Abilene. I did a long series of posts on them.

The sculpture is composed of many sculptures actually. There are three cowboys and 70 head of Long Horn steers. The steers are fix feet in height so it IS alot of bronze and collectively it's an amazing work of art and very realistic.

The way this sculpture got here is a big real estate developer wanted an iconic Old West attraction in downtown Dallas. Now that fact itself is pretty funny because it's sister city which sits just to it's West is Fort Worth. And Fort Worth was where the famous Chisholm Trail came though and where all the stockyards were.

In fact, Dallas looked down on Fort Worth because of being a "Cow town" with all the rowdy cowboys, saloons, fights, acres of brothels and all the rest which came with being a cow town. 

Dallas didn't want anything to do with that image and now they're the ones who wanted a sculpture to commemorate the cattle drives! lol.

They even had some lawsuits filed against the project for being "historically inaccurate."  But here we are today and it's one of Dallas's biggest tourist attractions.

 It's right down by the infamous Dealey Plaza where President Kennedy was assassinated. Here's what that looks like:
