The world of today is full of materialization and money. Everyone is striving to earn a better lifestyle in order to win the race of life. The fact is we are completely alone in this world and if someone tells you otherwise, he may be lying to you or is not aware enough to realize what he is actually saying. You cannot depend on anyone else except you neither emotionally nor financially but if you do so, you will remain empty handed in the end. You are the only person that you can rely on in this world. 

As soon as you realize that your life is your own and no one will come to rescue you when a storm hits your life, it becomes easier for you to manage your expectations. You should remember that you always have to work hard in achieving your dreams because no one will fill your hands with the things you want in your life. No “free lunch” type thing exists in this world and you have to be very realistic in order to make better living for yourself. You may believe that you have friends or family to support you in the ups and downs of your life but the reality is when push comes to shove, you stand alone – completely alone. An old proverb says that you come into this world alone and you leave this world alone. This is how our world functions and we cannot change but mould ourselves with the circumstances of life.

**Stay away from unrealistic expectations**

Yes, I cannot deny that friends are the most important part of our lives and if we are lucky enough, they also love us with all of our faults. But still, if you tell me that your friends will always be you in every phase of your life, I’d have to ask you if you are even serious. There always comes a time in life when your friends disappoint you or let you down because this is human nature. Your friends have their own life too and even if they support you or have your back most of the time, it really does not mean that they will stay with you forever. My friend, nothing in this world lasts forever. Your friend may be your best buddy at this moment but once he gets busy in his professional life or ties knot with someone, your friendship bond starts getting weaker day by day. Even if you manage to keep in touch with your friend, you will no longer be as much important to him as his wife or kids. You see, this is what it comes down to! 

Besides that, if we consider the life and death situations, how many people would you be able to name that will risk your life for you? How many people will agree to sacrifice their lives for saving yours? No one? My dear! Do you know the reason behind it? This happens because humans are unreliable creatures and they always put themselves first before thinking about others. 

One of the biggest mistake that we make is depending too much on others while living our lives. In the matter of depending on others, we start developing unrealistic expectations from our family or friends but when those expectations are not fulfilled, we get hurt and develop a belief that life is unfair. When you learn to stand of your own without asking someone else to be with you in your ups and lows, you emerge as a strong person that can handle life himself.

**Never allow others to write your script of life**

When you let other people control your happiness, you are badly manipulated in the long run. When you allow people to decide who you are and give them the control of taking your important decisions, this never turns out good for you. You should never rely on others for your happiness because no one else can care for your needs as good as you can. 

Being independent provides you the privilege to be strong and get you enough motivation to let go of unrealistic expectations. People who keep on depending on others and like to cling to their emotional shells never get the ability to properly live their lives or become independent emotionally as well as financially.
