Hello Splinterlands friends, one more week I'm with you all to talk about a new battle condition. This time it's the turn to talk about *Briar Patch*.

We will see what happens when this condition is active in the battle, we will study the best way to beat our opponent and how to defend ourselves from the condition and finally I will share a combat with it in play to see what strategy I use to try to win the game.

Let's start by talking about what the *Briar Patch* condition consists of.

## <center><b>What is the "BRIAR PATCH" condition?</b></center>

When the condition *Briar Patch* is active all cards have the ability *Thorns*. That is, when melee damage is received, part of the damage is returned to the attacker.

> Cuando la condición *Briar Patch* está activa todas las cartas tienen la habilidad *Thorns*. O sea, cuando se recibe daño cuerpo a cuerpo se devuelve parte del daño al atacante.

## <center><b>How to get advantage</b></center>
Let's look at some tips to try to avoid as much damage as possible caused by *Briar Patch*:

- The first and obvious advice is to try to use ranged or magic attack cards since they will not be affected by *Thorns*.
- In many occasions it is necessary to evaluate if it is really necessary to stop using cards with melee attack. There are many good cards with a lot of vitality that we can use even if this condition is active.
- Cards with the ability *Reflection Shield* are not affected by *Thorns*, so it is a good time to use them.
- We can guess the type of creatures that our enemy will use against us, most likely they will be ranged or magic attacks, so it is very important to use a summoner that will increase these attacks if we use them or decrease those of our enemy.
- The damage of *Thorns* first hits the shield, so using melee attack cards with a good shield is also important.
- There is the ability *Amplify* that increases the damage done by *Thorns* by 1, it is a good option to use at least one creature with this ability.


> ## <center><b>Cómo obtener ventaja</b></center>
> Veamos unos consejos para intentar evitar al máximo el daño producido por *Briar Patch*:
>
>- El primer consejo y obvio es intentar usar cartas de ataque a distancia o mágico ya que no se verán afectadas por *Thorns*.
>- En muchas ocasiones hay que valorar si realmente es debemos de dejar de usar cartas con ataque cuerpo a cuerpo. Existen mucha buenas cartas y con mucha vitalidad que podemos usar aún estando esta condición activa.
>- Las cartas con la habilidad *Reflection Shield* no se ven afectadas por *Thorns*, así que es un buen momento de usarlas.
>- Podemos adivinar el tipo de criaturas que usará nuestro enemigo contra nosotros, lo más probable es que sean de ataques a distancia o mágico, así que es muy importante usar un invocador que que aumenten estos ataques si nosotros los usamos o disminuyan los de nuestro enemigo.
>- El daño de *Thorns* primero impacta en el escudo, así que usar cartas de ataque cuerpo a cuerpo con un buen escudo también es importante.
>- Existe la habilidad *Amplify* que incrementa en 1 el daño de que hace *Thorns*, es buena opción usar una criatura al menos con esta habilidad.

As expected my enemy plays with the Life element and **Obsidian** as a summoner, I already have an advantage since **Thaddius Brood** in addition to nullifying his attack bonus subtracts 1 life point from each of his creatures. My enemy also has cards to reduce my magic attacks like **Mushroom Seer**. The first turn all enemy attacks are returned thanks to the *Magic Reflect*, even so the hits are very powerful and manage to destroy **Prismatic Energy** but not before destroying **Djinn Bilkja**.

>Como era de esperar mi enemigo juega con el elemento Vida y **Obsidian** como invocador, ya parto con algo de ventaja ya que **Thaddius Brood** además de anular su bonificador de ataque le resta 1 punto de vida a cada una de sus criaturas. Mi enemigo también cuenta con cartas para reducir mis ataques mágicos como **Mushroom Seer**. El primer turno todos los ataques enemigo son devueltos gracias al *Magic Reflect*, aún así los golpes son muy poderosos y consiguen destruir a **Prismatic Energy** no sin antes destruir a **Djinn Bilkja**.

The second turn is frantic and the hits come and go. Thanks to *Magic Reflect* I destroy **Terraceous Hulk** and **Regal Peryton**, although I end up losing **Djinn Muirat**.

> El segundo turno es frenético y los golpes van y vienen. Gracias a *Magic Reflect* destruyo a **Terraceous Hulk** y **Regal Peryton**, aunque termino por perder a **Djinn Muirat**.

My hard attacks destroy **Mycelic Slipspawn**, the fight is very close and I have **Usut** about to be eliminated.

In turn 4, with an accurate hit of **Magi Necrosi** I manage to destroy **Mushroom Seer** and eliminate the magic attack reduction applied to me.

Already in turn 5 I manage to destroy his last card **Runemancer Florre** in a good combat with a lot of strategy.

# <center>My opinion</center>

Analyzing in detail each card choice before starting a battle is essential to get good results. It is very important to anticipate our opponent's move, see the history of his last battles and predict what he will use to play cards that can counteract his game strategy. This is how you can win games in Splinterlands even when facing opponents who are superior to you.

> Analizar con detalle cada elección de carta antes de comenzar una batalla es primordial para sacar buenos resultados. Es muy importante adelantarnos a la jugada de nuestro rival, ver el historial de sus últimas batallas y predecir que va a usar para jugar cartas que puedan contrarrestar su estrategia de juego. Es así como se pueden ganar partidas en Splinterlands aún enfrentándonos a rivales superiores a nosotros.
