Nosedive is an episode from one of the seasons of the anthology series Black Mirror. Back when it was still an interesting series. Back when it told stories that reflected the path we were taking as a society. It's an episode I remember constantly, because it's the closest thing to our current reality.   

By then, the phenomenon of social media was already a fact, and people's desire to become internet stars was also developing. Nine years have passed since that episode aired, and what I see today seems to be paving the way for what was once fiction to become reality. 

The story stars a character named Lecie in a dystopian (or present) future where political correctness is established at all social levels. Everyone lives according to their reputation, their social media number, which is earned through interactions. Everything they do is designed to increase their number, and that brings them social benefits. Having more than four points is already an achievement, but more is needed to get better jobs, better opportunities, to be admired, to have the best. Doesn't this sound very current? 

Everything is posted on social media, and that gives you points. If you eat something, even if you don't like it, you'll post something saying it's divine, spectacular, that it delighted your palate, and all that nonsense we see today. Go to any post where someone posts a plate of food or a coffee, and they'll say wonderful things about the place, etc., pretending something that isn't true, pretending to live a dream life. It's all a vulgar lie, the only goal is popularity, going viral, being famous, getting invited to eat for free, anything. This is what we see today, and Black Mirror showed it in that episode nine years ago.

> Nosedive es un episodio de una de las temporadas de la serie antológica Black Mirror. Cuando aún era una serie interesante. Cuando contaban historias que reflejaban el camino que estábamos tomando como sociedad. Es un episodio que recuerdo constantemente, porque es lo más parecido a nuestra actualidad.   

> Para entonces, el fenómeno de las redes sociales ya era un hecho, y el deseo de la gente de convertirse en estrellas de Internet también se estaba desarrollando. Han pasado nueve años desde que se emitió ese episodio, y lo que veo hoy parece estar allanando el camino para que lo que antes era ficción se convierta en realidad. 

> La historia está protagonizada por un personaje llamado Lecie en un futuro distópico (o presente) en el que la corrección política está establecida en todos los niveles sociales. Todo el mundo vive según su reputación, su número en las redes sociales, que se ganan a través de las interacciones. Todo lo que hacen está diseñado para aumentar su número, y eso les reporta beneficios sociales. Tener más de cuatro puntos ya es un logro, pero se necesita más para conseguir mejores trabajos, mejores oportunidades, ser admirado, tener lo mejor. ¿No suena esto muy actual? 

> Todo se publica en las redes sociales, y eso te da puntos. Si comes algo, aunque no te guste, publicarás algo diciendo que es divino, espectacular, que deleitó tu paladar, y todas esas tonterías que vemos hoy en día. Ve a cualquier publicación donde alguien publique un plato de comida o un café, y dirán cosas maravillosas sobre el lugar, etc., fingiendo algo que no es cierto, fingiendo vivir una vida de ensueño. Todo es una vulgar mentira, el único objetivo es la popularidad, hacerse viral, ser famoso, que te inviten a comer gratis, cualquier cosa. Esto es lo que vemos hoy en día, y Black Mirror lo mostro en  ese episodio hace nueve años.

Nosevide always resonates in my memories. When I log onto social media platforms such as Instagram, where everything is now marketing, I long for the days when social media was full of simple content, people sharing their photos, birthdays, gatherings, beautiful images, etc.   Now everything is promotion, everything is advertising, everything is someone trying to sell you something, whether it's a product, a service, or selling themselves as a brand image, influencer, or neighborhood celebrity. They try to be politically correct, without offending anyone, because you have to please everyone.    Turning everything into a big lie. What the episode of that series showed us as fiction is quickly becoming a sad reality.

The protagonist lives in a bubble, ceasing to be herself. She is a first-class hypocrite. That's the way the world is. There are no longer normal social gatherings; now it's all about networking to gain some economic advantage. If you get together with someone, it's only out of interest. Just like the character in the episode. Anyone with a score below three, as is the case with her co-worker, is ignored, discarded, and expelled from the circle of people who govern social behavior in the story. 

Do you live your life thinking about what others think of you? We are all going to die and be forgotten, no matter how famous we become. No matter how successful we are. You're going to die. Do you remember your great-great-grandparents? No. Do you remember your ancestors from hundreds of years ago? No. The same thing will happen to you, to me, to everyone. So why live our lives worrying about what other people think? Fuck them all. Live your life, because time flies and you don't know when your expiration date will be. That's one of the great lessons that episode teaches us.

Those shouts of insults. At the end of the episode, it's a cry of liberation, of freedom. Find the episode and enjoy it. It premiered in 2016, but today it's more relevant than ever.

Cuando entro en redes sociales como Instagram, donde ahora todo es marketing, añoro  los días en los que las redes sociales estaban llenas de contenido sencillo, gente compartiendo sus fotos, cumpleaños, reuniones, imágenes bonitas, etc.   Ahora todo es promoción, todo es publicidad, todo es alguien intentando venderte algo, ya sea un producto, un servicio o vendiéndose a sí mismos como imagen de marca, influencer o celebridad de su barrio. Intentan ser políticamente correctos, sin ofender a nadie, porque hay que complacer a todo el mundo.    Convirtiendo todo en una gran mentira. Lo que el episodio de esa serie nos mostró como ficción se está convirtiendo rápidamente en una triste realidad. 

> La protagonista vive en una burbuja, dejando de ser ella misma. Es una hipócrita de primera clase. Así es el mundo. Ya no hay reuniones sociales normales; ahora todo se trata de hacer contactos para obtener alguna ventaja económica. Si te juntas con alguien, es solo por interés. Al igual que el personaje del episodio. Cualquiera que tenga una puntuación inferior a tres, como es el caso de su compañero de trabajo, es ignorado, descartado y expulsado del círculo de personas que gobiernan el comportamiento social en la historia. 

> ¿Vives tu vida pensando en lo que los demás piensan de ti? Todos vamos a morir y seremos olvidados, por muy famosos que lleguemos a ser. Por muy exitosos que seamos. Vas a morir. ¿Recuerdas a tus tatarabuelos? No. ¿Recuerdas a tus antepasados de hace cientos de años? No. Lo mismo nos pasará a ti, a mí, a todos. Entonces, ¿por qué vivir nuestras vidas preocupándonos por lo que piensan los demás? Que les den por el culo a todos. Vive tu vida, porque el tiempo pasa rápido y no sabes cuándo será tu fecha de caducidad. Esa es una de las grandes lecciones que nos enseña ese episodio.

> Esos gritos de insultos. Al final del episodio, es un grito de liberación, de libertad. Busca el episodio y disfrútalo. Se estrenó en 2016, pero hoy es más relevante que nunca.
