# EOS is Coming... 
**Don't Forget to Register Your Tokens!**


 A little over a year ago, I made a STEEM post titled '[EOS is Coming...](https://steemit.com/eos/@jeffjagoe/eos-is-coming)'. At the time, information regarding the project was limited. But one year has passed and now the impending launch of the EOS network is right around the corner. It's important to take some necessary steps to receive your share.

# Register Your Tokens

Currently the EOS tokens that we see in existence are nothing but placeholders for real EOS tokens. They are ERC-20 tokens that were issued as part of a one-year initial coin offering (ICO) to raise funding. These ERC-20 EOS tokens must be registered prior to the launch of the platform to ensure you receive your share of real EOS tokens. The EOS platform will launch on June 2, 2018.


# Take Tokens Off Exchanges
It is never smart to store crypto-currency on centralized exchanges. If you do not have access to your private keys, you are not holding your crypto-currency. Instead, you are trusting a third-party with your funds.


#### My Recommendation
*Use Exodus!*

[Exodus](https://www.exodus.io/) is a great desktop multi-wallet service that encrypts private keys and transaction data locally to keep you in control of your funds. Exodus also has the [ShapeShift](https://shapeshift.io/) digital asset exchange built directly into it's interface, making it easy to trade crypto-currencies within your wallet.

In Exodus version 1.48.0, you can now register your EOS tokens within the Exodus wallet without having to export your private keys. They make it very user-friendly and it's a simple way to ensure your EOS tokens are registered.


#### Download Exodus: https://www.exodus.io/

Once you download Exodus and your EOS tokens are inside your wallet, visit the HELP tab in the bottom left-hand corner and find the section for 'How do I register my EOS tokens?'. Here you will see a big green button that says 'REGISTER MY EOS TOKENS NOW'. Click the button to broadcast the transaction and successfully register your tokens. It will cost a small fee in Ethereum to process due to the nature of ERC-20 tokens, so be sure to have some Ethereum in your wallet ahead of time. Once the EOS Mainnet launches, your real EOS tokens will be associated with your Exodus private key. You can choose to export your private key or wait until the Exodus developers add support for EOS mainnet.
