This is a famous temple here in Laos. It is 460 years old. When this temple was built, North America wasn’t even a colony yet. Native Americans still occupied all of it. Queen Elizabeth I was ruling England. This is where all the Kings of Laos would be crowned until 1975 when the communists took control.

This is one of the first places I ever visited in Luang Prabang. Even though things didn’t work out with me and this cuttie, this is still one of my favorite pictures and places to bring people when they first arrive here.

I’m still exploring what to do here on Steemit. I started a language blog, @teachinthai, because I’m fluent in Thai and had been an English teacher for over 15 years, so I thought focusing on that would work. It seems once the price of Steem dropped the Thai Steem community quit participating. There were also weird divisions and gangs. I was advised to use this app or not follow that person or not use certain tags. It’s not like in Korea where they love cryptocurrency and decentralization. I still think it’s a good idea. The blog was created in May 2018, has some followers, and almost 200 posts so it could come back one day. I’ve offered to share the posting key with several people, but they just couldn’t be bothered I guess. I just think using English, my real name, and being honest with my thoughts and feelings is a lot more fun and it’s getting me more Steem and votes. I’ve been an artist since the first grade. Art was the only class I would get straight As in. I majored in Art in university because I was lazy and knew I could get my degree easily. So here is my first artistic Steemit post!

I thought doing a sketch using pointillism would be a nice way to relax and work on my patience. I think all of us have become hot tempered and have low attention spans now because of smartphones and social media. I’ve noticed most young people will click the mouse or tap the screen erratically when the operating system or link doesn’t work. They weren’t around back in the Commodore 64 or 286 CPU days and think that the computer will understand their anger and frustration at its lack of quick response.

Pointillism requires patience and concentration. I wish I had the skill to do this with just the pen, but I needed to sketch the temple and get the perspective in pencil first. I used a postcard as a reference and once I had a good sketch, I started dotting away. I didn’t use a fancy or expensive pen, just a cheap gel pen I found at the post office when I bought the post card.

I like to work on random points when I’m drawing or painting, but I tried to focus on doing the left before the right side since I’m right handed and didn’t want to smudge the cheap slow drying ink. You can see my ruler, post card, and the pen I used above.

It took me all day to finish the front side of the temple, because I haven’t drawn anything for a while and I’ve broken my hand three times since the last time I’ve done anything. I could feel my hand wasn’t what it used to be, so I decided to call it quits for the day and come back to it later.

OK. I fished the roof and the steps. This is starting to look nice. I actually took a three day break since the last picture. A friend from Bangkok came to town and we drank like 100 Beer Laos. I love the beer here. It’s cheap, it doesn’t get you crazy drunk, and I don’t get hangovers from it. I just have to pee a lot, but that’s every beer right?

Leonardo da Vinci was right when he said, “Art is never finished, only abandoned.”

I thought about adding details to the ground in front, but thought it would take away from the temple and to be honest just felt like it was time to abandon this one. After two more clouds, I called this one, “finished.”

Thank you for checking out my pointillism sketch of this beautiful and famous temple. This is my first time posting in art. It was fun to get back into it. Have a great day!
