A Glimpse Into The Future Of GameFi
I spent the last few days looking into [MOBOX](https://www.mobox.io/#/), a GameFi platform built on BSC and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with my findings. Considering that it is a BSC project I expected another quick cash grab but after looking under the hood it was well worth my time.

# What Is MOBOX?

In simple terms, MOBOX is everything you see in the image below.

It is a game platform, an NFT marketplace, a farming and NFT staking protocol, and probably a lot more if development stays consistent. Instead of offering one single game, MOBOX has three working games that are playable right now. Some of them require owning an NFT and some are free-to-play but that isn't the only reason why MOBOX is different.

The games aren't anything special. They are optimized for mobile gaming and all of them are "idle games" which means that you don't have to play them to earn. They are automated and if you feel like it, you can just jump in every now and then and collect the rewards. The part that interests me the most is [community development](https://faqen.mobox.io/mobox-platform/roadmap) which should be implemented very soon.

# Nothing Beats Community-Driven Content

People tend to apply traditional gaming concepts to NFT gaming but the truth is that they aren't even comparable. NFT items such as Splinterlands cards or Axies are not limited to one specific game. A completely new game built on Hive could be using Splinterlands cards for a completely different game genre and that is what is happening with MOBOX.

In Q4 2022 they are expected to introduce a game creator API for third-party developers. What this means is that independent developers will be able to build a game on top of the MOBOX platform and give a new usecase to the MBOX token and NFTs. This opens a door to unlimited creative potential which can be seen today in gaming communities.

Robolox, Minecraft, GTA V... All of these games are relevant today only because their community kept providing new content to the already existing playerbase. As long as the content stays fresh and interesting they will keep coming back.

To understand just how much one contribution can change the general perception of a game here is a [great video](https://youtu.be/S-GpPEH2ojo) about a lesser-known game called Geometry Dash.

**Essentially, one single level creator changed the game from this**

# To This

# Nothing Beats Incentives

It is important to notice that all of the community work mentioned above is mostly done pro-bono. It is an industry norm that community contributors aren't compensated for their work but blockchain is going to change this for good.

In the case of MOBOX, independent game developers will be compensated in many different ways, if the community allows their work to be deployed into the metaverse. The game and content need to be approved by DAO token holders before they can be included but once they enter the metaverse creators will start getting compensated.

This new reward-driven environment should and will attract talent from every gaming community simply because it is more profitable to share your work with communities that are willing to pay for it.

# The Tipping Point Is Already Here

In January alone, over [$1 Billion was invested in GameFi](https://cryptopotato.com/gamefi-thriving-as-january-saw-1-billion-invested-in-blockchain-games/). Most of this capital will be spent on development but as soon as we see industry-wide adoption of community-driven content and governance everything will change.

If and when we implement a fair reward system that attracts the best developers and artists around the world traditional gaming companies will hardly be able to compete. Content and gameplay will finally be built and inspired by gamers, not VCs and CEOs that never touched a controller in their life.

Using MOBOX once again as a simple example, you can see that it doesn't have to be one product or one game that defines a project. They built games on top of the platform but they also built an NFT marketplace and yield farming mechanics. If you don't want to play the game you don't have to, there are a few more use-cases for your in-game items and tokens besides the gameplay.

In retrospect, Splinterlands has been implementing these features long before the whole industry started catching up. Imagine where it could go when third-party development becomes a reality in the "Splinterverse" as well.
