A bit of preamble, if you will.
[Johnny Mercer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Mercer), arguably one of the greatest American lyricists of the 20th century, left these words unpublished. 
After Mercer's death, his widow, Ginger Mehan Mercer, arranged to give some unfinished lyrics he had written to Manilow to possibly develop into complete songs. Among these was "When October Goes." Manilow applied his own melody to the lyric and issued it as a single in 1984 [source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_October_Goes)

Mercer was from Savannah Ga, I am from Claxton, 60 miles inland. When this song came out and I heard it for the first time it was as if someone had reached into my chest and grabbed my heart.
I finally bought a sheet music transcription in 2018, but have never been able to pull together the licks I wanted, and I could never sing the line "I hate to see October Go" without crying real tears.

I've been working on this for over a month, to get it done before the end of October.
It still needs work, but time has run out.
