###
Weekend Reflections of Radzilla Rex:

Springfield, Missouri has a surprisingly great local artistic community, and we celebrate the tradition of the First Friday Art Walks as many communities and cities do. It's always a really neat night of live music, open galleries, and generally pleasant people.

This past Friday, February 03, I had the opportunity to open the Art Walk show at The Outland Bar right in the heart of downtown Springfield in support of Shapes and of Devlin Pierce. I enjoy playing The Outland, because I feel the regular crowd there always seems very receptive to *different* musical concepts and is a good breeding ground for testing new material...so I thought it would be a perfect time to bust out some of the tracks I've been working on...which meant I was *nervous*.

Devlin and I had actually played the same little basement art space on the same night a number of years ago, but had never split a legitimate bill. **Super appreciative to Seth Goodwin at The Outland for putting us this bill.**

###
**Devlin Pierce** (solo set)

Devlin is an epic acoustic singer-songwriter with a rough-yet-smooth voice that would make dudes like Zac Brown and Ryan Adams jealous. He recently teamed up with seasoned musicians Chris Vanderpool on bass and Paul Alexander on drums to form Devlin Pierce and The Song, and I'm really pumped to see what they came up with in the studio last weekend. Great musicians. [You can click here to hear an entire set they did together back in November.](https://youtu.be/aOZds7rh0OI)

Shapes immediately hearkens to Rush and early Yes with their progressive lines and obvious influences both in sound and in presence...however there is a modern twist within their tunes that blew my mind, really. Their stage presence was truly outstanding (I'm picky about this one--a band better be able to play those licks if they're moving **at all**), their three-piece band sounded much more full than their numbers would suggest, and their drummer had one of the finest-tuned kits I've ever listened to being played.

Great show.

###
Jessamyn Orchard Music and the first performance of the Electronic Cassette project.

*Here are some shots from my set. I do have some video but I am still editing that down for everyone. Can't wait for you to hear how this is coming together. Trying it out on stage was one of the best things I could've done.*

###### (I'll also be officially announcing the Electronic Cassette Project really soon...so stay tuned for that.)

**The boost of confidence I received from Friday night was enough to keep me moving forward on this project I felt like I started for no reason, but now feel more attached to every day.**

Huge thanks to [IndieMo Records](https://indiemorecords.com) and Donnie Cockrum for what they do to promote local and regional music in Southwest Missouri. Not only did Donnie run sound for the night, but also took photos of all the performing artists. Dedication. These photos above are used with IndieMo Records' permission.

[I have written about the shows that Josh Heinrichs puts together before. They are among my favorite things that happen in this town.](https://steemit.com/music/@jessamynorchard/photo-journal-2016-springfield-reggae-fest-ft-josh-heinrichs-and-skillinjah-zack-mufasa-77-jefferson-and-max-dab-includes-photos) This weekend was no exception to the awesomeness featuring [Patrick Mureithi](http://www.patrickmureithi.com), [Preston Lee](https://www.facebook.com/I-am-Preston-Lee-729511557171326/), [Cas Haley](http://www.cashaley.com), [Josh Heinrichs](http://www.joshheinrichs.com), and [Skillinjah--](https://www.facebook.com/SkillinJah/)also featuring [Ryan Dunn](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR1wJlPGD_5HlIcJk0fn__g) bringing his saxophone stylings to the performances throughout the night.

## A great moment:
I've been a fan of Cas Haley since I first heard his America's Got Talent audition (cheesy, I know) and his rendition of The Police's "Walking on the Moon," blew my mind, but once Josh Heinrichs started introducing him to Springfield to perform at these quarterly shows, I think only then did I fully grasp the talent and the true artistry behind Cas' music.

Josh has featured Cas in Springfield multiple times for shows here, but this was the first time I stopped to sincerely thank him for what he brings to our town and we even got a great hug.
