 “Ok. We’ll see you soon. Base out.” The last team was walking over the ridge, with any luck they’d be back by nightfall. She could monitor their vitals through her pod, but the drone lost the visual in the last storm. There must be something wrong with the camera. No matter, she’d fix it when they got back. It wasn’t the first time, and she was sure it wasn’t going to be the last.  She leaned back in her chair and adjusted the volume of the monitors, it would be a good time to get some rest. She closed her eyes, and let her mind wander. Being a panel operator had its perks - but the boredom wasn’t one of them. She had only just drifted off, when she heard the alarm. Bolting upright in her chair she swivelled the monitor closer. She panicked and grabbed the comms. “Come in Gamma team. Gamma team, respond.”  Nothing. All she could see were the heightened pulses and respiratory patterns of the team. Something was wrong. Very wrong. The speaker squelched. The scared voice of the Gamma team leader filled the room. “Nchhhhhh. Nooooo. We don’t have what you’re looking for.” She screamed into the mic. “Tom. Tom, do you hear me?”
