Chibis on Hive | My Splinterlands Art Contest Week 215 Entry | Dax Paragon
Hello!

Last week's entries are all freaking good! As I am scrolling down the entries in the comment section, I discovered many talented artists in the community. Everyone has their own art style and interpretation of Splinterlands characters. Congratulations to all entries and to the winners! Yippee~

You can check out the list of winners [here](https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splinterlands-art-contest-week-215)

This is my second time having an entry in the weekly art contest. This time around, I chose **Dax Paragon** to draw in my chibi style. I see Dax as this prince of a celestial world. He has this ball of cosmos as if it holds all the stars and heavenly bodies.

So. without further ado, let's turn Dax Paragon into my Chibi style!

## Sketching the Concept

I first started the concept with a sketch. Dax as a character is already given. Now, I have to think of a concept that will match Dax. Hmm, definitely the concept is the part that makes me think harder. I went for a heavenly, starry concept for Dax. I drew clouds in the background, as well as a line of clouds, the moon, and the stars. Dax is holding a glowing ball (I did change the position of the hand later on).

# Line Art

For the line art, I use the tool called color-pick and copied the colors of Dax first. This then will be my guide for the colors. It is not always the accurate colors so I adjust it by comparing it to the original photo. It is just like copy-pasting texts but with colors, lol. The line art colors are a bit darker than the flat colors to emphasize edges and separations of the line (Ugh, sucks at explaining things).

# Flat Colors!

What is your favorite part? For me is the coloring process. I find it satisfying to fill in the white canvas, also this is the part where the subject is coming to life, don't you agree?

From the color-picked colors, I just used the bucket to fill in the canvas. I purposely made the colors lighter, shadows will be added later. The ball is a mix color of cyan, light blue, purple, and hints of white.

For the background, I used a gradient tool for a dark and light shade of blue.

# Details! Clouds, Glows, Shading, Shadows

As for the clouds, I go to Pinterest to use a reference. Sometimes, I use clouds reference that I took pictures on my phone. I want my clouds this time to be a bit gloomy, like a celestial cloud. I added the half moon and stars. To make it more interesting, I put a line of clouds.

To make the clouds pop, I played with different brushes to make them fluffy. I put darker shades on the lower part to show the glow of the moon above. A lighter shade on the top, and will add more glow later for the final output.

# Final art of Dax Paragon

Final touches! I put more glow on the clouds by using the airbrush. Put some sparkles on the ball to make it more celestial feels. I find the stars a bit dull so I gave a 50 percent glow. I added additional layer on top for the colored beam of lights. I adjusted the colors, checked if I missed something (I always do!), and taaadaaa! Dax Paragon in my chibi style is done!

I am getitng the flow of the Splinterlands art contest by now. I truly enjoy transforming the characters in to my chibi style, plus I met great artists along the way. I commit myself to do an entry every week. I hope that I will not get busy by Christmas time, hihi.
